Murray and new partner out early
Jamie Murray and new doubles partner James Blake crashed out in the first round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal. Murray and world number nine, Blake, fell 7-6 (3 3-5 [8-10] to Ivan Ljubicic and Fernando González. Murray and Blake dominated the first-set tie-break. In the second set, Gonzalez and Ljubicic broke in the eighth game and then served out. And with the momentum on their side the singles specialists took a tight decider to progress. Murray announced last week he would split from regular partner Eric Butorac after the US Open. He opted to play with Blake this week and India's Mahesh Bhupathi in his next tournament.

* Seems a bit unfair to say they "crashed out" when they "dominated" the first set tie-break & forced the match into a match tie-break! At least his actions are now considered newsworthy!

Murray's agent Patricio Apey says while the split is amicable, the Scot is keen for a high-quality new partner.

"True champions make these decisions when they are at the top of the game rather than the bottom," said Apey.

"They've had some good open discussions and decided it was best to go on without each other. They have learned a lot together but it is time to move on."

Apey added: "It is in the Murray genes to always strive for the best.

(Implies that Butorac was not good enough!)

"It was a good match, Jamie was really effective. I think James was the weak link in the team. Ljubo was solid and Gonzo was on fire."
