Anyone been watching this? Unfortunately the great man Dennis Ovens was just knocked out. The upside of this is the draw is now wide open for an unknown to come through the draw. The young prospect Phillip Taylor has had some success in recent years and might fancy his chances now Ovens is gone, whilst the wily veteran Raymond van Barnevald also must now have chances.

Watch both matches.
First match she scored very heavily, second match her finishing was outstanding.
She is calm and talented and has already got an invite to the tournament in NY.
The second set featured the best ever leg of darts in recorded competition as Smith hit a nine-dart finish in the same leg which saw Van Gerwen miss an attempt at double for a nine-darter of his own.
The players average 163 between them for 3 darts in that single leg.
Not the world champs of course, its the Premier League play offs tonight. Near 14000 crowd in the o2 and Luke Littler just won the title with a 9 dart finish thrown in the middle for good luck. No idea what his average 3 darts was but the lad is a phenomenon - folks may not like darts but this guy is a star and a half and hes only 17.
Good to see the darts back again today, I do enjoy it. One thing- the 3 dart averages seem to have a lot fewer 100 plus match averages so far - as of end of round 2 we had 3 this year, 1 today. Last year had 6 in the first two rounds and 4 in round 3; so we seem to be a decent number off last year.
The quality of darts and number of upsets is high - does a close match drag down a three dart average over a long match, ie as the other player is winning legs and sets, or is there an explanation why the TDA levels seems a little lower than usual so far?

I saw that a lot of seeds were knocked out in the first 2 rounds. For whatever reasons, perhaps quite a number of the most likely high average contenders didn't turn up with their A games?
Though 6 to 3 in R1 and R2, yes double but pretty low numbers and I suspect actually more just a random thing.
Out of interest how do they calculate 3 dart averages?
Do they count it excluding the point when you can finish in 3 darts?
It includes checkouts I believe - literally how many points you score divided by how many darts you throw, times 3. I believe!
Thanks, apparently the case yes, on further reading. I had always rather thought that it excluded finishes and maybe from the point you could finish in 3 darts. Makes those 100 plus averages all the more impressive.
