Angus is a direct entrant now. That means we have two more WCs to give. I couldn't see Marko at Novak's match (although I saw only about 10 minutes), so hopefully they'll go to our boys.
The remaining four girls WCs have been announced -
Watson Rae Vandeweghe (as expected) Aleksandra Grela of Poland.
They're just on a mission to ruin our players, I guess. She isn't even a great player like Coco so it seems that they'll give anybody from the streets (no offence to Ms. Grela and she's quite good) a chance as long as they're not British. Strictness is one thing but hypocrisy something else. They don't give WCs to Borwell, Elliott or Broady with the excuse that they're not good enough to win a match - even though that's thrash, there's a point. But what about the fact that there are at least ten of our girls who can win a match here but they don't get wild cards but a person from Poland who's not even mastered 10Ks (although that's due to her young age) gets one? Things don't add up with the AELTC, no, they don't.
One good thing is that we'll get one more WC to give as La Robson or Watson or Broady will get the SE. I assume it goes on ranking? So Watson gets it if she wins and Broady wins. Broady gets it if she wins and Watson loses. Laura gets it if she wins, irrespective of Watson's result.
tom knights and mat james got given late wild cards.. with a little help from smethy making the semis at roehampton meaning he got a pecial exemp which opened up another wc spot.
The latst headache of British tennis bodies is the welfare of Italian tennis, it seems. Why would anyone give Giannessi a WC in Britain is beyond my imagination when there are at least eight others who deserve more! At least there are reasons to give one to Boluda - good way to suck up to Nadal, plus it's a good way to suck up to Boluda in the future if he becomes a top 20 player.
And the LTA's so spineless that they won't complain. Why would they complain, of course... it's not like they care about any of our players.
Yes you can. Cox had a WC into Wimbly last year but later got the SE after reaching the semis of Roehampton. Matt James got the wild card if I remember it correctly.
