I was really hoping Ward would win this, simply because the LTA favoured Beck with the rules. At least he showed that there is not that great a difference in performance.
Just got in from very windy day. Good to chat to James through most of the matches. Will compile my reports as soon as I can but not on top of world so going to grab shower to freshen up!
Of tomorrow's games I see Goodall winning, as too Slabba. I think Eaton will win battle of Brits and sadly will see Cox go out
Alex adds 4 more points to his total and his ranking 315 will go up to around 307.
If he reaches the quarters, he will be ranked around 289. If he reaches the semis, he will be ranked around 270. If he reaches the finals, he will be ranked around 244. If he wins the title, he will be ranked around 230.
A ranking of 270 should be enough for USO qualies, so two more wins here and a back up in Penza would be good. But we may be hopeful of him getting in with anything inside 290, which requires just another win here and maybe one in Penza. He is so close... I would have laughed at you if you had said he'd be here even three months ago.
Round two:
Chris Eaton [403] vs. Richard Bloomfield [361] Joshua Goodall [263] vs. Brydan Klein [337] of Australia Alexander Slabinsky [315] vs. Gouichi Motomura [380] of Japan Daniel Cox [961] vs. Samuel Groth [239] of Australia
So one guaranteed quarterfinalist and very winnable matches for both Josh and Slabs. Cox will have to play out of his skin, but who knows...
And confirmation that Hooshyar & Jackson beat Miles Armstrong & James Ward 7-6(4) 6-1 & so will face the second seeds, Goody & Ryderstedt, in the QFs (on Thursday? Haven't checked the OoP yet ).
