RE: Week 29 - Manchester Challenger [35K+H] - 2008.

Official report for today

MANCHESTER TROPHY 2008 / THURSDAY

Play on day three of the LTA Manchester Challenger was restricted to doubles only indoors. Overnight rain and heavy showers throughout Thursday made grass court play impossible and an attempt to play second round matches will be made tomorrow (Friday 18th July).

Well done to Bloomers/Skupski and Goodall for reaching the doubles semi's here, and hopefully they can both reach the final tomorrow to guarentee us a doubles champion, which would be a decent result from the event.

Probably is the best hope of someone winning the event here, so let's hope they take advantage of it.

Actually Bloomers still has a chance of getting into USO, but he needs to make the finals here. Or else two more wins here, an SE into Penza (*), and two wins there could do it. Maybe the rain was good for him!

Just a fool's hope, I guess, but there's no one in this field he can't beat on grass, so who knows!

(*) Penza is like 390 miles south-east from Moscow, so it's not that easy to organise a trip in a few days of time. Lexington is not possible as there are Challengers in Europe next week and you can't get SEs in different zones (continents) if there are tournaments in your own, I believe.

Excellent reports Gazz - I'm adding nothing to those.... too good!!!
It was great to meet you and James - I saw BladeTiger but not to say hello.

I'm not in any of the photos - no loss there..........

Ummmmmm - I did think Klein was a total prima donna about the swearing bit (put the G in gamesmanship that's for sure!!!)  and if he doesn't win this Challenger he should apply for a position with the Australian National Ballet.

Klein seems to be a very interesting guy. Have to watch him play someday soon.

Kinsella wears the weirdest clothes in the history of male tennis, I'm sure.

KFP: I've uploaded pretty much all of the photos that I have taken so far onto photobucket, including those of Kinsella [and his attire]: https://s351.photobucket.com/albums/q446/stjamm/

howdy folks, i'm new here.

I was at the Northern club on wednesday and loved watching the tennis. I'm thinking of going again today but not sure if it will be indoors due to this pesky weather? Any news yet?

Cheers

Hi Royston, welcome to the site.

I don't have any info on the situation but I'm sure somebody will post it here soon. Enjoy the tennis!

I have just rang Diane at the Northern t.c and she said that the rain has stopped and it does seem that it is now brightening up after a miserable morning. I am about to leave for the tournament now, so I should arrive in about 40 mins.

Would you mind if I robbed one of your photos for an avatar?

Thanks Madeline & James.

Great photos James, I'm on some of them (on the back row opposite the umpire and right at the back) I look cold smile.gif

Anyway, I haven't been to Northern Club since Boggy won a few years ago. I'm well impressed by the way our lads hit the ball. I can see them all doing very well and pushing up the rankings very soon. With the way our girls are doing too the future's looking great for british tennis.
