I paid a visit to sunny Cromer today where group 2 teams were competing. Unlike yesterday at Hunstanton a few LTA officials were present, the referee was extremely helpful giving me an LTA 25 page brochure listing all the venues, teams and players both male and female and he even went to the trouble of identifying all today's players.
Strangely there were fewer current pros than in the group 3 event at Hunstanton, one player that stood out to me was Richard Wire of Essex who was very impressive but the most memorable thing of the entire event was the big serving of a delicious fresh raspberry cake! The ladies there certainly know their stuff.
I don't know what happened in the other groups but in group 4 both Middlesex and Norfolk gained promotion to group 3 for 2009, with Norfolk leaving it almost to the last ball of the week to decide. report - http://www.game-set-and-match.org.uk/norfolk-lta-summer-cup.htm
The Group 1 was held in Hunstanton??? I was on holiday in Hunstanton at that point and dying to watch some tennis, couldn't even find somewhere to watch the Masters Events. Can't believe I didn't know it was on!

Well if you're there next year John, from the pier or whats left of it walk up the hill directly inland until you reach the coast road - cross over and straight in to the sports ground - 10 tennis grass courts on far side
Cheers mate, funny thing is I was reading a "what's on" guide and they mentioned a tennis tournament taking place, but it wasn't until late August I think. They described it as "the biggest tennis tournament in Britain" lol.
I would definitely have gone up if I'd heard about it. I think I will be there next year from 20th July-ish.

A match between George Coupland and David Corrie of Hertfordshire and Mark Schofield and Ken Skupski of Lancashire had been stopped. Coupland, having thrown up a lob, shouted 'Get In' before the ball had landed. Schofield and Skupski said it was a 'hindrance' - the Herts team countered it was a call from Coupland telling Corrie to move in to the net.
How to settle that dispute? There was no ranting or raving, purely a five minute discussion at the end of which Perkins said he recognised both sides of the argument, that both teams had a case and told them to play a 'let'. Dispute over. Back to the tennis. Halcyon days.
'From Monday 22 to Friday 26 July, 44 counties will compete across 13 grass court venues with Eastbournes Devonshire Park once again set to stage the pinnacle of the competition
The premier group matches in both the mens and womens events will take place on the outstanding courts at Devonshire Park, the traditional home of the event, with free entry for spectators. Six womens and six mens teams will be battling it out for the 2019 County Cup titles in the unique and atmospheric setting of the seaside tennis venue
Suffolk will be aiming to defend the mens title they won for the first time ever last year, with them facing newly promoted Kent and South Wales, as well as teams representing Essex, Hertfordshire and Middlesex. In the womens competition, reigning champions Surrey won the title for a record 50th time last year promoted Middlesex and Yorkshire will join Essex, Hertfordshire and Warwickshire in trying to take the title from them'
I thought there was a thread for this in the general section, but doesn't seem to have been covered last year. Probably should be in there as it is both men and women.
I went down to Felixstowe today to watch a few group 6 ladies matches. Nice day in the sun by the sea !
