Here is a snippet from a newspaper report on Steph's fine win in the last round:
Cornish had to work hard to hold off Burdette. Burdette trailed 3-0 in the second set, but battled back to make it just a 5-4 deficit. After splitting the next two games, the No. 7 seed forced a tiebreaker and scored the first five points of the breaker on her way to forcing the deciding set.
"I was angry I lost that set," Cornish said. "I had a lot of chances up 6-5 but could not finish."
Cornish opened up a 4-1 lead in the final set, but again had to find a way to hold off Burdette. The American closed the set to 5-4 and held a game-point to extend the match. Burdette's shot on the next rally went wide and Cornish won the next two points to advance.
"I played more consistent in the third set," Corrnish said. "I got a little tight after what she did in the second set, but I was able to come through."
