Great week for Jonny so far, and even if he does lose the final, it's good to see him getting back to somewhere near his best and making a mockery of Lloyd leaving him out of the DC play-off.
Great stuff from Jonny, good to see him back winning like this! I would say it'd be nice to see him in Nottingham this year again BUT IT DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE.
The Open, that is, not the city... it still exists. Somehow.
*WITTY REMARK*
funny you should say that, last time i looked it was just white, all white, everywhere, a bit like when the island in 'lost' vanished.
Pity Jonny drew a complete blank today. Like goldfish, I sincerely hope that the fact that the Romanians had a walkover in the doubles doesn't mean that he's picked up another injury.
Just for the record, the singles final was billed (unsurprisingly) as the match of the day on the German Tennis Federation's page for the tournament & was very complimentary about Jonny:
Spiel des Tages
08.02.09: MARRAY (GBR) vs. Julian REISTER (GER)
For those who don't read German, here's an unofficial translation (apologies for the slightly purple prose - - but I thought it was worth passing on for Jonny's sake!):
"Match of the day
Jonathan Marray and Julian Reister face one another in today's [singles] final.
Marray has impressed all week in this tournament in Nussloch with his classic [the German term could also mean "traditional", but I think that's unlikely] and very elegant serve-and-volley [game] and among the players he beat on his way to the final was the top seed, Joshua Goodall.
Reister made untroubled progress to the final with [a series of] confident victories and thrilled spectators at all his matches.
Since both finalists came over as very likeable, in addition to performing so well on court, the MLP Cup team wishes them every success and the spectators a fair and exciting final."
Should not Jonny Marray, arguably among Britain's finest fast court players, have been included in the Davis Cup play-off at the NTC later this month for the tie against Ukraine in March?
Marray serves and volleys like no other (on almost every point), he is playing well again and yesterday, reached the final of a $15,000 ATP hard court futures in Germany.
En route to the final, the Yorkshireman defeated Josh Goodall, the top seed in the event, whose name does appear in six who will cross swords for the right to be Andy Murray's No 2 in Glasgow. The selection process for Britain's one-off play-off is beginning to look a trifle ****-eyed.
It won't surprise anyone but a newbieh here that I agree with this assessment, but of course, Jonny hadn't played this year when JL selected the playoff six - that's because he kept on going until late last year.

Whatever "****" was in Neil Harman's report, thare are quite a few variations of "****" with varying hidden letters that I would use to describe John Lloyd and his whole Davis Cup (non ) selection process that is starting to unravel well before it even gets underway !!
