RE: Week 9 - Challenger (€42,500+H) - Cherbourg, France

What else would you expect from a bunch of GEGROBPs? (garlic-eating get rid of Brits plotters) smile.gif

Of course, there must be dozens of GEM v GEM matches all over the world every week ... but that's because they're generally better than GB at tennis.

He seems to be giving players a set start, but at least he's getting the job done! smile.gif This is effectively a $50K+H so 5 points for qualifying, they all help, though he'll need to reach the semis here in order to move up the rankings because he's defending 26 points from Kyoto last year.

Interesting stats in the last match Rich was obviously having problems with his serve rhythm in the first 2 sets with 7 DFs and 2 aces, then in the 3rd set it came together with 1 DF and 6 Aces.
Rich also missed 4 chances to break in the 1st set so I guess he was a bit 'up tight'.
So to recover and win when playing poorly is a good sign

Richard has drawn the 4th seed, the toughest match he could have got disbelief

Ken Skupski, James Auckland and Jamie Delgado are all in doubles.

Did anyone really believe he would have been placed against anyone else?
At least it will be easier after that first match! wink

Ive just realised that Rich has a 100% record against Mannarino - yes, he beat him in last years Sunderland final 6-4 6-3 - so hoping for a repeat. biggrin

Three good draws for qualifiers, and Bloomers gets the dud one! doh Still, as you say, it'll become not a bad draw if he can repeat his win against Mannarino of just over a year ago.

Of course, Mannarino has soared in the rankings since then, from 322 to 132, so he must have improved a lot. More than half of his points come from just three events though - reaching the semis at Metz ATP at the start of October (beating Seppi, de Voest & Gicquel), reaching the Final of the Rennes Challenger the following week and winning the Jersey Challenger in November.

On the other hand, while Mannarino has won 7/7 matches against non-Norfolk Brits, all in straight sets, his record against 'yokels' ain't so good, cor blarst me wink - he has lost to Aucks (in 2006) as well as Bloomers! He is also on a 4-match losing streak at the moment, starting from the tournament after he got stuffed 0, 2 & 2 by Verdasco at the AO, where he was the FFT's nomination for their swapped WC.

Let's hope he doesnt chose this event to find form then!

No Brits in action Monday.

By the way their live score is working today  - consisting of a webcam aimed at the scoreboard and updating every 10 secs - LTA note how simple is that?

Good to see Bloomers come through qualifying here and at least he seems to be finding some form, but he's dropping a few points this week so he'd ideally need to win the opening match here.

Mannarinno is a tough opener, but he doesn't look to be in the best form this year and he can blow very hot and cold so let's hope it's one of his off days.

And maybe if we bang on about the scoreboard enough someone from the LTA will read the comments and decide it is a good idea (or someone in the press can pick up on it and explain how poor the LTA coverage of challengers is compared to the rest of the world) wink

Stéphane Robert has a main draw WC for this one, of course. They just can't escape him ... doh

And he can't quite escape his compatriots, at least not in the first round:  he's drawn ERV, the seventh seed! biggrin  At least he's in the opposite side of the draw to Bloomers, too. wink
