Stéphane Robert has a main draw WC for this one, of course. They just can't escape him ...
And he can't quite escape his compatriots, at least not in the first round: he's drawn ERV, the seventh seed! At least he's in the opposite side of the draw to Bloomers, too.
And ERV duly "did the biz": saw him off in straight sets, 6-3 7-6(3).
VB - you seem to delight in the prospect of players retiring.
The thing is when most of these guys do call it a day they will take up a full time coaching job, so a lot comes down to do they swap the daily grind of the tour for the mundane daily routine of club coaching.

I realise I shouldn't really be looking so far ahead, but a little snippet of news concerning Bloomers' half of the draw (though the other quarter): the page for Cherbourg on the French Tennis Federation site doesn't give a reason, but the sixth seed, Boggo's conqueror in Wroclaw last week, Josselin Ouanna, withdrew (presumably overnight) & was replaced by the Russo-Yankee LL, Alex Kuznetsov, who promptly lost to the Austrian, Martin Fischer, by 1 & 3.
In addition, one of the French qualifiers, Romain Jouan, has beaten a main-draw opponent. He saw off Martín Alund (ARG) by 2 & 1!
Good on 'em! Since one half of the partnership on the other side of the net was Travis Rettenmaier, I wonder what that says about Skups's contribution to their lifting of the Wolfsburg title at the weekend!
We now have a representative in the top half of the doubles: Thierry Ascione & Josselin Ouanna have withdrawn, presumably because of the latter's injury, whatever that may be, & they have been replaced by Bloomers & the American, Scott Oudsema. Should they overcome Olivier Charroin & our old Polish friend, Dawid Olejniczak, in the first round, they will face the French pair, Mathieu Montcourt & Alexandre Sidorenko, in the QF. M&S saw off the top seeds, Brian Battistone & Harsh Mankad, by 6-4 3-6 [10-7] earlier this afternoon.
