Desperately sad and, even though I was aware the survival rates for what she had weren't great, a dreadful shock. She managed to both achieve and overcome far more in her all too short life than most of us ever will.

Sad and so very very quick.....didn't she just retire in November and was diagnosed two months ago? Wow, just seems like yesterday I was watching her play in a fed cup match. This is awful news and even though I never met her I feel sick to the bottom of my stomach.
She was considering the possibility of a transplant but maybe it was already too late.
Her last twitter entry was a month ago followed two weeks later by the announcement by the WTA of a "Rally for Bally" cancer charity event to be held on 15th June.
I have been reading this message board for years, but haven't added anything until now. This is truly tragic news - so much fight and determination during her relatively short life made her an admirable human being. RIP
