There is a debate on GBTG about whether or not the WC for Laura would be legal or not. Both Tara and Joss fell foul of the Byzantine rules after taking a WC for Wimbledon.
They had their points that they earned from the tournament in which they broke the rules taken off. Which was annoying as possibly it was their best tournaments of the year.
In both cases they contrivined AER (Age Eligibility Rule) rules. Tara took one extra wild card than she was allowed, perhaps not realising a wild card into the qualifying tournament at Wimbledon counted. Joss was even more unlucky, she exceeded the number of tournaments she is allowed to play between birthdays, seemingly not realising it included doubles tournaments (she played main draw doubles at Wimbledon).
The question seems to be whether Laura can accept wild cards for two Grand Slams, Wimbledon and US, between her 15th and 16th birthdays. It has been argued that because she lost in the 1st round at Wimbledon that one won't count, but who knows what the WTA in their wisdom will decide?
But slams always count towards your ranking so I cant see them just ignoring the Wimb WC. If worst comes to the worst then I hope the WC stays in British hands.
Draw is out tonight, at 10. Katie and Bally will both be seeded, hopefully Georgie and Mel can get themselves into different sections - and Laura for that matter. A good win for her would boost her ranking a lot.
Of course the wimbledon one will count as she got 5 ranking points. WCs dont count if you don't get any ranking points for them
Tara and Joss situation was very different. Tara got points taken off her as she got 4 WC's between her 15th and 16th birthday, you can only have 3. Joss played 17 singles events which she is allowed to do before her 18th birthday but as she played wimbledon MD doubles that counted as an 18th event. That one was a bit picky i think.
