I would say while Andy not at his really best it was a much better set than that to me.
Andy in control early on and credit to Serra for really upping his game, going for shots and lines in a consistent spell and serving really well.
Yes, maybe Andy could have gone after the second serve more, but he has looked continually able to break serve and did 3 out of 6 times with quite a lot of other break points, particularly to have gone 4 - 0.
Main issue to me was his first serve and the occasionally familiar nothing second serve. If he was serving better I would expect his whole game to be a bit better, but I really didn;t think overall too bad and he pulled out some real quality shots near the end of the set.
I haven't been watching the second set but see he has raced through it 6 -1.
That first set was maybe just a good test and he didn't play it that badly, main issue again I'd say was serve.
Good final set from Andy until he did seem to lose focus ( which I wish would happen less than it does when he is in control ) and Serra got one break back.
At the end, I was actually quite relieved that he served it out since I'd started getting slightly worried that he might go too AWOL almost because it had got too easy and it would have been extremely careless if he'd let Serra get right back into that set. Not that I would have felt him in danger re the overall match.
Still, overall another match in straight sets, looks like I mised his best set just seeing sets 1 & 3.. Picked his first serve up which was good to see which obviously helps win easier games and helps I feel his whole confidence.
Pretty much what he would have wanted, a good competitive first set when Serra played well but he dropped off rather whereas Andy continued at a level and indeed upped it, which was all too good. Some real quality at times, and the usual commendable retrieval ability, which as I have said before should be more what marks him out rather than having to rely it on too much when he sometimes gets tioo passive.
Work on serve and focus but to me Andy generally looks in pretty good nick.

Sorry, gjr, having watched the first and third sets ( the second was actually supposedly his best ) I simply do not agree with that extremely harsh assessment.
As I said above, he was not at his real best but it wasn't too bad a performance. Main issues to me were indeed his serve and also losing focus at times. His quality was there when it had to be, and I would give Serra credit for how he upped his game in the first set.
Ultimately Andy secured a fairly comfortable victory, with room for and the ability to improve when more seriously challenged.

For most parts of the match Andy was rubbish. It was woeful.
I can't believe from serving 3 aces in his first 3 points his serve was pathetic from then onwards.
I've watched every match live that Andy has played at the AO from the Chela win till today except for the Nadal match and the 1st round this year.
Andy played today like he played against Tsonga the other year. A better player and he's going to find it tough.
He will beat Isner because he has nothing that can hurt him.
He'll have to step it up soon because he'll get hammered by Rafa.
??? one of the only players not to drop a set, doing what is needed in little time, but stil not good enough?
He's playing well within himself at the moment. Murray will destroy Isner and the then the fun and games will really start. I was at the Rafa match tonight and he could of lost IMO.
