A pity all of our four seeds have been drawn into the same half.

Yes, it is a pity all our seeds in the same half, our players ( like many other countries ) perform best at home, it's best if our top hopes are spread through the draw rather than having to meet each other.
I feel it is even more a pity that Evans, Smethurst and Ward are in the same quarter, which may really limit potential overall points that might otherwise have been up for grabs.
Interesting draw - there is a decent chance for both Fitzy and Golding to pick up wins. Both find themselves playing against players who are currently struggling for form and don't appear to be playing anywhere near to their capabilities. The matches will most likely hinge on Fitzy's ability to cope with Slabber's serve & Golding's temperament, Illingworth is a runner who will retrieve balls all day long - a potentially frustrating prospect for someone akin to junior oppposition, who more readily produce UEs.
And I'll be very interested to see the outcome of the Ward/Pauffley match - might prove to be a testament to how much/little the court surface can determine the outcome of a match (Just under a month ago Ward defeated Pauffley 6-4 6-1 on clay)
However the big question of the week - will Mr Bains have the audacity to pull his usual gamesmanship stunts against a fellow Brit, who may possibly be an acquaintance, but at the very least is a British DC player? (Wolfie, surely a cheeky camera phone video is in order if things get feisty!)

LOL good one, but somehow I doubt even that will give Maniel any chance against the Flowerpot Man.

Are you clandestinely suggesting that he might be upstaged if there any foreign items within the vicinity of the courts?

It appears to be some sort of code - someone get Robert Langdon down here
Clear as mud I thought.
Sorry for some of the misunderstandings today but my phone was running out of battery so I had to be quick with some of the texts, better tomorrow I promise.
I blame Sterland-Markovic and Dais for the confusion over wild cards by the way, why just enter the doubles.
Some of the problems with the set scores arise because the scores of previous sets are not dispayed, so if I miss the end of the set of a match, I can see who won it but not the score.
Firstly I was very impressed by Robin Goodman, not one of our top juniors but had a really good all-round game, big forehand, nice single hander on the backhand side, OK serve and came forward to the net on occasion. Final two sets didn't reflect the quality of play. One to watch certainly.
As I expected O'Leary beat Bradshaw and surely his first point is not long away, maybe tomorrow against Priddle. Dave was pumped for this, a lot of come ons and just outplayed Bradshaw, who seemed OK but just not a 1000 player. There was a bit of commotion with Tim serving at 4-5 deuce, it seemed they played a whole point only for the umpire to call Tim's second serve out! Overall some bizzare umpiring decisions once again, I actually think it would be probably better for the players just to call their own lines!
Elsewhere Brassington was just too powerful for Seb Jackson, who didn't really make up for his lack of power with enough precision.
Bains did just about enough against Whike, tap tap tap from him but with his game he is never going to be able to run through these lesser players.
Burnham Arlidge had a big serve and often came in behind it. Also had one of the worst techniques on the forehand ever, hard to describe but an unusual take back and he seems to hit the ball so close to his body and also hits it later than most. Too strong for a fairly weak opponent, TAKE THAT LITHUANIA!!
Didn't see much of Glasspool and Gabb, but Glasspool just seemed to be dictating the rallies a lot more.
Priddle seemed to be more conservative than when I saw him last. He won nine points in a row from being 5-6 15-40 down in the second set, including a great stretch volley drop shot on the second set point.
Konov was another solid baseliner but silly errors from the inconsistent Charroin was the thing that made it close really. Third set was on serve until the last game.
Shame that the bottom half is loaded with all the Brits who could realistically win here but at the very least it should ensure that one of them gets to the final and we could well come away with all four quarter finalists in that section, so at least that will give the Brits some points.
Top half is not so cheery but a chance for Bloomers to upset the 5th seed which maybe the best chance of big points from that half.
Also to add that since I have to head towards Birmingham and beyond this week I will also be attending the event tomorrow and maybe for some of Wednesday and Thursday as well, so it will give me a chance to see some of the British players that I haven't seen play before to judge their games a bit better.
Fascinating stuff from Akhenaten, though I hope the Brits do slightly bit better than his system suggests!
I'm not sure why wolf is apologising for anything - the codes were fine, the odd mistake in a set score completely understandable, he made it clear how he was guessing the WCs and I'm very grateful he bothered to tweet the scores at all.

I see after his semi final in week 7, the Wardinator was 5 clear of any other player for matches played this year : 25 matches, won 21, lost 4 on the stats provided at :
However, with his subsequent unaccountable laziness , he had been caught up in matches played by Gary Lugassy ( also competing here ) on the last stats provided for 1st March, each 4 clear of anyone else.
In percentage matches won, at 1st march he stood 11th on 84%, tucked neatly in between Djokovic and Roddick and far clear of that Muzza character !

So does that mean we can safely assume that Wardinator is the true British no.1?
Anyway that's a great draw and some really good all-Brit matches tomorrow. Hopefully Bath will be just as good next week as I should be able to get over there for at least one day.
