Yes, another fighting performance from Heather, this time ending on the wrong side. Hopefully a good week in Mexico then a well earned break.
She's certainly been playing at a level I didn't expect at this stage, but am really pleased to see, especially looking back at that season opener when she turned up seemingly rusty and out of sorts in the first round of the Aus Junior Open.
Will at least be getting quite close to the top 400 in the rankings and up from GB no 14 to no 11 when the next ranking list comes out a week on Monday.
Another close match for Heather. Is this what we should expect from now on 3 hour battles which end up 7-5, 7-6 in the third. It justs seems that her senior career so far has been like this match after match. What I like about Heather is she seems to be a quick learner who is gradually improving her game and getting better results tournament by tournament. Being a grade A student is certainly helping her in that respect. She has gained 37 ranking points from 4 tournaments so far this year and I would suggest she is well capable of reaching the top 250 by the end of the year if not higher. I noticed that betfair were betting on whether Heather or Laura would have a higher ranking by the end of the year. Currently they make Laura a big favourite but given Laura's current injury status and the limited number of events she is able to enter I wouldn't be surprised if Heather ends up with higher ranking by the end of the year. Finally I think she's a dead cert to be given a Wimbledon wild card this year.
Yep, so she will be ranked about 401 when these points are added on. She has played so many matches and has had some really tough draws these last couple of weeks too which will really help her. really think she is more than capable of being in the top 300 by the grass season and then just a few wins would see her rank rise considerably in the second half of the year with obviously the grass season (incl Wimbledon) wildcards and the obligatory quali wildcard into the US Open. She's already beating the type of people who will be in slam qualies so I see no reason why, if she keeps on improving at the rate she is, she won't be able to win one, two or even qualifying in the US Open come august.
But first Heather has to turn her attention to Iraputo. The field is considerably weaker than in the last two US 25ks she has played so hopefully she won't be too tired and can stay focused. I don't want to put my mouth on anything but either way it should be a very interesting week if she isn't too tired.

QF: STOOP, Georgie (GBR) Q 273 v FERGUSON, Sophie (AUS) 159
Probably already started. Ferguson got beaten in 3 sets by Laura in AO Q and is looking to reach her first semi of the year. She thrashed the no. 2 seed 1 & 1 in R1 here.
