wow they wont even give boggo a dubs WC! that will be harsh in extreme wont it? i knoe he wants thew wc
They are probably giving the first round of doubles wild cards to the actual doubles specialists and then seeing who from the singles boys is best suited to the remaining couple of wild cards.
I'd expect Boggo plus partner to get one of them once they are finalised.
Good shout on Berankis as well for one of the remaining wild cards and he could probably justify one with his result this year.
Don't think Mahut will get one unless he has a great run here, given that he got one last year and lost to Vliegen in round one (I think), which even if Tomic gets the expected WC still leaves a spot open.
I think Boggo still has a chance of that WC but to get it, I think he'll have to beat Dimitrov and Lalo before he'll be considered, and then maybe even Benneteau/Anderson, as if he reaches the QF's here, it would look very harsh not to give him one. (and he is capable of beating all of those players - Lalo would be the toughest, but he had never won a match at Queens until last year and is not the most reliable player in the world)
I broadly agree with FD's assessment. Kiefer is also someone who will be known to a large number of casual tennis fans with his record at Wimbledon and in the Australian Open. Even if the AELTC had only wanted to give Kuznetsov a QWC (as per the agreement with the ITF) they were forced to upgrade once they were given an LTA list with 7 recommendations for QWCs, leaving none spare
Wimb qualifying starts Tues of Eastbourne week, so i think they can play qualifying?
Assuming it is the same as previous years, Wimbledon qualifying will start on Monday for the men. You can play Eastbourne qualifying as well, but anyone still in on Sunday afternoon (when qualifying should have been completed, weather permitting) will be withdrawn from Wimbledon qualifying. That's why the qualifying fields at Eastbourne (and previously Nottingham) tend to have very few players ranked between 100 and 300
Apparently Kuznetsov is last year's junior champion, fair enough I guess.
I was just to pull you up on that if someone else hadn't already! :p How could you not know who Kuznetsov was?! You know it's Wimbledon tradition to award a WC to the previous year's Junior Champion! And I thought you were aware of who won in 2009! Honestly!

If I remember the stats correctly, last year, the only player who entered Eastbourne qualies who was not either already in the Wimbledon main draw is some way, either by WC or DE, or was ranked too low to make the qualies cut was Brydan Klein.
A tweet from 5livetennis prompted me to check this - in 2006, Marc Gicquel got a WC for Roland Garros at age 29, won a round there and reached the top 100 the same year, staying there for more than 3 years.
Another thing that suggests that the idea of giving up on players in their mid-20s is way out of date.

Kiefer has just beaten world number 14 Mikhail Youzhny in the first round in Halle in what was a very good match, which suggests he is getting back towards his best and probably deserving of a wild card.
Can't think of too many more potential applicants who have the ability to beat a top 15 player who has just reached the QF of a slam.
