Anne lost 1- 6 in the 3rd having saved 2 match points and taken it to deuce. She must have had some injury problem I feel for this match to have turned this way.
Looks pretty much like a repeat of the first rounder at Flushing against Chan from a pure result perspective - domination of set one before a quick reverse in sets two and three.

Yes, so perhaps it is just lack of stamina - but I wonder if there are some 'niggles' that she, wisely, does not want to worsen? She has has some hip problems causing retirement in a couple of matches this summer - although they didn't seem to amount to an 'injury' as such - at least I don't remember hearing more about them. (Nottingham and Estonia I think)
Anyway, I am so sorry for her to lose yet again, she gets so very fed up with herself.
If Heather doesn't win tonight I may have to change nationality ( I did live in Spain once..... now they've got one or two reliable players I believe !!!)
I'm not so sure. Even though the score suggests Anne won the first set easily, I got the impression that a lot of that was due to the Alexa Glitch serve. Once she started winning a few points on her own second serve, the tide turned pretty quickly.
Anne to me didn't win the first set that easily, and like alot of her matches recently faded badly as the match wore on. Considered retirement after her US open loss, albeit very briefly, so needs a big boost now to lift her spirits. Can't be easy seeing Bally taking the position of GB number 1 and knowing that she is capable of playing a similar level of tennis, but alas the results are not coming to take her back there.
How can she be losing this having dominated the 1st set so heavily? GB women players, they're like GEMs without the garlic breath.
(and as with GEMs, we love them anyway ... )
I'm sure I agree (but what's GEM ??) !!!!
Garlic-eating malingerer It's an expression often used in the forum for the French men, particularly in the pick'em competitions. It's related to you just don't know what you are going to get from them.
It's a pity but I do get the impression from her results, and I think from some of the things she has said, that Anne is really suffereing a dip in confidence.
Has of course nothing to defend for the next few months, so would be looking to really advance her ranking. However, she doesn't add anything unless she gets more than her lowest non mandatory counter ( currently 18 points )
