RE: Week 45: ATP 1000 Series - Paris

Andy took the first set on the tiebreak 7-6(6) coming from a break down to level at 5-5 and again coming from behind in the tiebreak (0-4)

That was a pretty ugly first set, Andy playing just a little less bad than a very poor Cilic . Not sure the wrist is 100% as he is not hitting through the ball, defending and just hoping for Cilic to make the mistakes which he has done by the bagful.

Cilic making fewer UEs breaks in game 6 and holds on comfortably to take the second set 6-3

Just about to make the same observation. Andy got nowhere near Cilic's serves in that set and Cilic made far more winners, whereas Andy struggled to hold serve on several occasions. I didn't think Cilic was all that bad in the 1st set, either.

A poor service game in the 4th of the 3rd hands the initiative to Andy. Better get this done and dusted from herein.

Mission completed, not without a scarey moment or two, but... Monfils up next.

An ugly win, and as Andy confessed afterwards, last year when not at his best he was able to dig out these victories whereas this year he hasn't. So a pleasing win from that aspect.

Thank goodness (just got back from late-night shopping). I left at the end of the first set, and was a bit worried as Cilic's big serves could be almost unreturnable on this very fast surface. Glad to see Andy came through. I'll go and read all the write-ups now!

Andy last on again tomorrow though hopefully Mad has not got any nocturnal activities again  wink

His match vs Monfils is scheduled for not before 8.30 pm ( 7.30 our time ) and that follows Fed vs Melzer not before 7.30 pm.  So quite likely to be a bit later than 7.30 pm our time unless things rapped up pretty quickly beforehand.

Anyway, don't always know what you are going to get from Gael but looks as if he came into the tournament in reasonable form.  Woud have expected him to beat Verdasco in the last round rather easier than he did, but likewise with Andy vs Cilic.

Monfls was the beaten finalist here last year but then Djokovic won the title  hmm.gif   I also get the impression that the courts are quicker this year.

The courts are unbelievably quick Indy, and much quicker than last year.

Just don't really see either Fed or Melzer as 'rappers' ,  and Muzz was  rubbish too,  now, perhaps,  Montfils winksmilesmile

Fed was rapping along like a good one in the first set :  " yea, 6 - 1 ain't it good, I can stick it to them when I'm in the mood"  but has calmed down a bit in the second set

Certainly Melzer fighting now :  "Yea man, I'm not for the sword, like my pal was to that Brit Ward"  smile
