If anyone is planning to go along to Sutton to cheer on some of the British qualifiers, this may help you identify some of them.

Still confused as to why Fitzy is having to qualify. Hopefully she can pick up the point for her bother.

Shame the likes of Yaz didnt go to sign in as she would've made it easily...
No obvious chances of upsets, except possibly Alex. Still praying for Mandy to find some inspiration :)

I believe this is Anna Smith's home club. Does anyone know how she is? Is she still injured?

Tara has won her first match, though not without her injury problems rearing their head again unfortunately.

"Ouch. Quad not looking good. Happy to limp myself to a first round win though, wish these injuries would go away!"

We have 3 players out at the moment.... Anna, Cav and Laura and my best guess is that Anna's return will come first and that Laura will be last. Don't ask me to explain why I think this as its just a hunch. Certainly Laura won't be back until at the very earliest the backend of March.

Don't know, the LTA works in mysterious ways.  Not sure how many wildcards Fitzy has received over the last year.

I guess they are expecting / hoping Tara and Fitzy will qualify so maximising the Brit numbers in the main draw  hmm.gif

Fitzy's opponent has the odd impressive result and lots of dross...let's hope it's a bad day. Was quite surprised Ilge took 5 games off Anna tho! GL to the girls tomorrow...need at least 2 Brits to make SFs for me to justify the trip down next Sat :s

Shame but probably shouldn't have taken to the court.

Has there been more news about her then?  I thought it was 3 weeks from Hopman.

There was an indepth article in The Times with her new coach (PM). Amongst other things the article revealed that the injury was worse than first reported. The abductor muscle that was injured was torn leaving 7cm of scar tissue, so PM said that it would be 2 months before Laura would be back on a tennis court. That article came out about two weeks ago, but of course unless you are a Times subscriber you can't get access to it. Because of the severity of the injury special care would have to be taken in the rehab to ensure the area wouldn't be reinjured in the future.

The article also talked about the fact that Laura was ' 1000kms away from being a top 10/ number 1 player'. To get there PM said that Laura must get much quicker and become more reactive on the court, but reassuringly he feels she can get there.
