Naomi back in the top 250 with this run.

With Naomi defending 6 points next week, that win will take her to 209 points still slightly short of the current WR 250 who has 212 points.  Another win would take her to 219 points so then good chance she'll be in the top 250 though I don't know how the others around this point are doing.

Just 61 further points to defend before Wimbledon so on current form hopefully can be quite well within the top 250 come Wimbledon time and get a main draw WC.

With the 40 points avialable just for winning one Slam qualifying match I kind of think that can be a mixed blessing and with her game she'd certainly have a good shot at winning a qualifying match on grass.  Main draw likely very tough unless she got a really good draw and even then...  But you never know  hmm.gif

Pity re Katie and I guess not any great shock.  Though a Katie nearer top form I would expect to take M'Lady who hasn't shown anything great this year, with her pretty clear defeat by Heather in Australian Open qualifying and failing to qualify in Grenoble last week.

I reckon Naomi is good stead for a Wimbledon MD wildcard and that might really push her on =) Has anybody seen her play? Could you guestimate a peak ranking for Naomi as I have no idea

I saw her a few weeks back in Glasgow against Lucy Brown.  She seems to have a very decent serve, but gets bogged down in long ralllies when it appears she has the ability and strength to hit winners.  Maybe thats a confidence thing I'm not sure.

As for how high she can go, I suspect she could get in and about the top 200, any higher than that would be a slight surprise.  Mind you I'm judging her on the 2 or 3 live matches I've seen her play, and tbh I haven't seen too many of the players from 150-200.

All in all, I suppose I'm saying I haven't a clue hmm

She is also only 20, so still time for some improvement.

Ah I was misled by Steven's ranking breakdown thingy. He had Midland last year starting on the 14th.

It would be benificial for Naomi to play main draw. It's players like Melanie and Katie who might be better off in qualifying.

The Impaler looked pretty good at the HC, so clearly has the ability.

I must admit I didn't see M'Lady at the Hopman Cup.  Though I take that event with a slight pinch of salt, being maybe a bit more exhibition.

But certainly there does appear a real ability there which is taking its time to begin to be really fulfilled.

Only the multimillionaires would treat the hopman cup as an exhibition. For the rest, $1m shared between only 16 players makes it one of the bigger paydays on the tour.

Cheeky! LOL biggrin On the women's ranking breakdowns, the date on the left is the final day of the event (as it says at the top of the column), not the start date as on the men's breakdowns page.

I know that's odd, but it's because I needed a starting point when I set up the rankings breakdown pages - I used the old steveg breakdowns for the men (which, like the breakdowns on the ATP site, show the tournament start dates) but the only source I could find for the women was http://www.vlmark.szm.com/, which shows the end dates.

Since I first set them up, I haven't needed to refer to that site because I've kept the breakdowns up to date myself (by adding data from the top 25 tables each week) so it would have been easy to start recording start dates instead, but in order to change at any point without making things even more confusing, I'd have had to go back through the last 52 weeks' results changing end dates to start dates, so I've stuck to the original convention.

It's best to ignore the date on the left and just look at the "Off date" on the right anyway.

Not another retiral   disbelief    As said, especially given Naomi's form, hope nothing particularly serious.  I see from tennisforum she did lose that first set 6 - 3, I wasn't entirely sure  ( I would have been even more concerned if she had retired having won the first set )

That makes 7 out of the top GB women's top 12 apparently indisposed to various extents.

Out before this week -  Cav and Laura ( injured ) and Anna S ( who I assume is also still recovering from injury )

Retired from Sutton this week  -  Tara ( out for a little time ), Fitzy and Naomi B

Unable to play in Fed Cup so far  -  Bally  ( "niggle" )

At this precise moment I believe Anne K, Heather, Katie, Mel and Lisa remain fit but take care girls !!
