Week 7 - ITF ($25K) - Surprise AZ, USA - hard

L32: Lisa Whybourn WR 290 v Qualifier

Intriguingly, the first seed Lisa could meet is (5) Lenka Wienerova (SVK) WR 241 (CH 128 in Aug 09), whom she upset 6-2 2-6 7-6(5) to reach the Barnstaple 50K QFs in 2009, one of the key early wins that kick-started her rapid rise up the rankings that autumn.

Hardebeck is a 16 yo who looks as if she could be quite a handful.

Looking at her limited senior activity from last year ( 7 tournaments ) she beat two top 200 players ( Sacha Jones and Julia Cohen ) and a couple not far outside the top 200 and reached 50K and 25K quarter finals.  So undoubtably pretty underranked as against her true ( and presumably improving ) ability

A toughie no doubt, but a match Lisa really needs to win to prove that she is still progressing.

Yes, I am afraid comparing their senior records, limited as Hardebeck's is, I'd say Hardebeck winning is no surprise.  Still, the scoreline wiill I imagine be a bit disappointing fo Lisa.

Hardebeck does look like someone to watch for the future.
