RE: Week 17 - ITF ($50K) - Charlottesville, VA, USA - Clay

I'm going to assume Laura lost as no tweet usually means no victory. She was always going to be up against it anyway.

I think the weather was OK today, Bouchard won who was playing at the same time. Weather forecast dodgy for tomorrow.

There may be some light at the end of the tunnel. Falconi just tweeted 5.30am flight Git er dun. So that sounds as if she lost.

The schedule of play for tomorrow on the USTA website has Laura up against Claire De Gubernatis of France at 10 so it looks like she got an excellent win earlier.

No idea of the score though.

Score 6-3 5-7 6-4 so a good win, weather looks to have already turned so conditions will be very heavy blustery tomorrow.

That's a really good win under the circumstances smile.gif - de Gubernatis has had a good month, winning the 25K in Osprey, but Laura thrashed her 1 & 2 in Hechingen qualifying two years ago so you'd hope ...

That is an excellent win by Laura. Falconi is at a CH of 117 and is having a good year, having beaten a number of top 100 players and lying no 69 in the race.

R2 :  Laura Robson WR 256  vs  Claire De Gubernatis (FRA) WR 214

De Guberrnatis hadn't done much this year until winning the Osprey, USA 25K on clay two weeks ago, beating 4 players ranked WR 181 to WR 217 in the process.

( edit :  OK, maybe the Osprey win isn't as much news as when I started writing my post  smile )

Not liking the weather news. Laura has a history of losing windy matches.

Weather likely to be a major factor today, raining and also windy at the moment (no tornadoes thankfully- over 100 people killed yesterday). Clearing up by midday though.
De Gubernatis will be a tricky opponent today having won impressively a similar type of event albeit a weaker field just a couple of weeks ago. Knowing that Laura has a track record of impressive first round performances followed by a dropoff in round 2, this could be a major banana skin even taking into account their onesided previous meeting.

You can't fault her choice of doubles partner.

Matches didn't start here until 2pm today 'cos of the weather. No news on Laura's match as yet.
