 Marcus,

I can only say i have watched you on several occaisions playing in Scottish futures. I have never seen you give anyone grieff....umpires or ball crew. If anything you are fairly quite. I saw Evo beat you in the Glasgow futures couple years back and you took it well even though you were carrying a leg injury.

You keep it up young man and remember all of us here wish you all the very best whenever you play.

Take care.

Hmm, is Jeff not "here"  ?!   Never let it be assumed that all of us cheer all British players whatever,  I have said before that I personally joined here as it being a tennis forum, not a cheer leading club.  Though my natural tendency would be to support any Brit including Marcus that I have no reason not to support, and what probably is true is that in general we here want British players and British tennis as a whole to succeed, some of us quite passioinately.

I was already aware, as Sheddie says, that some players ( maybe quite a few ) do read this forum and hopefully many will appreciate seeing so many folk interested in British tennis and wanting it to succeed.  But, to me, that should still never mean that we give automatic unqualified support to British players or be afraid to give what we feel are genuinely critical views.  For instance I am a huge Andy Murray supporter though some might doubt it just reading some of the things I say     I think the forum works very well on that basis the vast majority of the time.

Anyway, Jeff has attended Queens and given his views.  And if Marcus feels wronged, I applaud him for coming on here and defending himself since no player should just have to accept anything written on messageboards or the like.

I think you summed it up perfectly until that last sentence when you came across as the sort of person Jeff was actually describing and making his point look stronger. You had already not let yourself be walked all over but then you added a bit of petulance.

I think you were bob on with your comments and was buzzing when you beat Mitchell thinking to myself - this is the junior wimbledon finalist and has made it to the top 450 within a year, Marcus hasn't played much recently what an amazing victory.

Be the bigger man (in the moral sense) and don't bother with the "I'm better than you stuff".

joke of an (audio) interview with boggo on the LTA website. the reporter asks alex if he is still taking tennis seriously cause he is ranked so low at the moment and he is 27. he then asks another question in the same vein!! what a plum.

Yes but what you need to understand is that any British player who is ranked lower than they really should be is obvious a lazy, apathetic, loser who has failed to deliver in spite of the best efforts of the LTA and so must be publicly humiliated at every given opportunity.

sorry squire but just because someone isn't a top 500 player doesn't mean they can't criticise you as long as their criticism is valid, i think that's what Johnnylad meant

Also i think just because Jeff stelling went over the top doesn't mean you should be annoyed with the rest of this website, 90% of us always give full support to you guys the players and rarely give criticism unless it is completely warranted

I joined so I could criticize Andy Murray, whether it was warranted or not.

I'm no angel ....

Oh, that is a wonderfully resonant phrase. It's usually used to as a euphemism to imply scumbaggery of all degrees, from Asbo types who lurk around town centres, to the likes of the Kray brothers (*). It's often linked with other phrases, as in "My lad's no angel, but he has a heart of gold."

I am also a bit unclear about one important detail of the Willis/Stelling spat.

Jeff said that Marcus was "rude in the extreme to ballgirls, umpires and line judges alike."

Marcus replied that "I said nothing to the umpire at all- and nothing to line judges."

So is that an admittance that he was rude to the ballgirls? (That really is low behaviour, far worse than being rude to a paid adult.)

And what is the difference between saying "nothing at all" to the umpire, and "nothing" to the line judges? Again, one might draw the inference that "nothing" actually means "something".

The plot thickens .....

(*) I AM NOT SAYING THAT MARCUS WILLIS IS A SCUMBAG!!!!!!!!

Not convinced Jeff's criticism was valid - though if that's the opinion he got from watching maybe it something Marcus should look at. I've been accused of things before I had no idea I was doing and would never purposely do but actually was doing.

(Stupid things like hogging remote controls and stealing duvets)

I just think bringing Jeff's achievements into his comeback was pointless - he has no idea what Jeff may or may not be in the top 600 in the world at (not that it matters anyway)

Jeff- maybe you were not at the same match I was today- didn't say a word to the balls girls maybe my attitude was angry but when your not playing great I'm not going to be over the moon- I said nothing to the umpire at all- and nothing to line judges. As for te weight I'm passing fitness tests with flying colours on endurance and speed. Oh and strength. Took out the guy who made j wimby final last year so he knows how to play on grass.... Also Jeff if you can beat me at any physical test I will change my middle name to Jeff. Not being funny but what are you top 600 in the world at (other than the obvious)?

Ok mate - I respect your views but I thought you were rude to the umpire when you told him to "Wake up" and that a call on Ebden's serve was a "shocker". Off the top of my head, you said "Wait" (no "Please") to a ballgirl in quite an aggressive manner when she was considering crossing. I personally didn't like it that much. A few of your looks at the line judges weren't to my taste either and surely designed to intimidate?, but perhaps I'm just being old school. Throw in (what I perceived) as your general demeanour and that is why I commented as I did.

I feel rather guilty for hiding behind a mask of anonymity on the internet whilst we all know who you are - so I was the guy standing level with the far service line. If you remember me then feel free to come up for a chat anytime and I'll clarify my comments on here. If you want I can make myself known to you and we can discuss my post?
