Well, I suppose that's possible, but I doubt that Zvonareva has spent much time at Bollettieri's in recent years - maybe a couple of weeks per year in the off season.
And many female players have commented about how there are very few friendships on the tour.
And in any case, let's pretend that Vera is a great chum of Heather, and knows all about her game - her observations would still be meaningless! The list of promising players wrongly predicted by the experts to be future champions is a very long one. I particularly remember McEnroe's commments a few years back that Donald Young was the most talented player he had ever seen.

Hmm. Ratty, your general point about not overhyping young promising players is taken. But (there's always a but!) I don't agree that there's nothing particularly encouraging about that match re: Heather. We've often seen that when 50-100 ranked players confront a player in the top 10, they get few or no games ... overawe, the sheer talent of the highly-ranked player ... whatever the case, it often happens. Heather, by contrast, made Zvonareva work for every point, never gave up, and had a more-than-respectable scoreline. So yes, I think it is encouraging. If she isn't overawed, knows that hard work in a match means you don't get blown away, and has a respectable record, she's much more likely to feel she can genuinely belong at the top. And that, given her innate talent, is significant.
