Lost on the 4th match point. Probably should have challenged the call that her "ace" on that last point was wide. I'm confident that without the injury she would have won that. Very encouraging performance for the future.
Likewise. Heart-breaking for Heather. I'm convinced she could have finished off the match in straight sets, had it not been for that bloody injury to her right elbow.

Obviously, we're gutted about the injury. She was playing so assured.
But what really impressed me the most was how she conducted herself throughout the match (especially after the injury). Boris Becker often states "if you're injured, never let your opponent see it", and I'm sure Heather must have been operationalising that advice. It was great to see such a composed head on young shoulders. This was arguably the biggest contributing factor to the final set being so close, she could have fell away and started to feel sorry for herself, but didn't. There was never any show of peevishness and she held herself like a true professional. Absolutely superlative.
I was there and it was relatively obvious she was going to win before the injury, she was playing great. But even after the injury she showed some real guts, and from listening to other people on the court she gained a lot of fans and got some big support. A lot of time for heather after that, just a shame about the result. Saw a bit of laura's match but she was a bit inconsistent , glad to see she won in the end though. Great result!
Pffft. It is a little harsh on Laura, for me. It doesn't seem to take into account a number of factors over the past two years, first of all she's had a number of injuries that has prevented her from practising at a crucial time in her development. Second, it completely ignores the difference in the sheer volume of tournaments both are allowed to play due to their age and thirdly, when she has entered tournaments, such as the Hopman Cup, she's played well overall.
I'm not taking anything away from the progress Heather has made, which has been fantastic. But to say that their careers have moved in opposite directions this past year, isn't accurate.
The thing I like the most about them is that they are disparate. If you get frustrated watching Laura's style, you can watch Heather. If you get frustrated watching Heather's, you can watch Laura.
If you get frustrated watching both, you can watch Andy. lol. Boy are we lucky to have him.
More rain. Do you think they will start the schedule slightly earlier tomorrow?
Doubt it, if as I heard the forecast for the next few days is basically OK.
Singleswise there are only I think 7 men's and 5 women's R2 matches not completed, of course including Elena and Laura's.
6 of the 7 men's matches are at least quite well underway and of course Fed's match will get going.
Tomorrow, all the scheduled 16 R3 matches are in place, ready to go, so they will be looking to play these and these of the 12 o/s R2 matches that reman to be completed.
Not sure how far behind the doubles is but I don't think it's that critical yet.
