Shvedova has had a poor season (she has a 4-12 record this year) so Bally is rightly the bookies favourite for this one, but she needs to play better than last week.
Having watched all of this match, the quality throughout was pretty low, but fair play to Bally for toughing out and saving all the break points in the second set then winning the tie-break.
Having won, she can now concentrate on playing better in the 2nd round
A scrappy match but it's the result that matters - even the commentator has picked up on the fact that Bally hasn't won back to back matches in a WTA main draw for a year - since this week last year in Istanbul, in fact, when she beat Schiavone in R2.

I don't know how Elena won that 2nd set, she wasn't serving well. She kept being behind, saved 11 break points to 2, went a mini break down in the tie break and then Shvedova double faulted for the 1st time in the set and somehow Elena managed to steal the set and the match. Ah well, a win is a win.
