I thought Anne would be more competitive than this, I even thought she might upset the Canadian girl. All it seems to do is back up my earlier assertion made before Laura's match that Wozniak is returning to her best form after injury.
Trust the GB girls to get Wozniak back to back when she seems to be back on top form (though, unlike Phil, I would have found it hard to classify it as an 'upset' had Anne won, given that she's the 2nd seed, ranked around 100 places higher and beat Wozniak 2 & 2 a few months ago!)
Bally has specifically denied that she is intending to quite after London 2012 following those recent reports. I'm sure once Heather or Laura overtakes them, the media will be doing what they did when Andy overtook Tim (changing of the guard, time to retire, it's unthinkable that we should have two players in the top 100 at any one time, etc) but hopefully the players themselves will ignore that!

Of course it's also possible that just as the curse of being featured on the ATP Challenger page did for Lu against Boggo, the curse of suddenly being the highest-ranked player left in the draw may have done for Anne ...

I think to be fair to Wozniak, the earlier encounter this year was played when she was still recovering from injury, it wasn't until the FO that she really started to play much better than that. Also the ranking difference is irrevelent when a player basically only has 3 tournaments counting towards that ranking ( Serena another example of this ). I think you could argue that Wozniak is a solid top 50 player when injury free, so Anne winning for me would have been an upset.
Regarding Bally, I think that article sends out mixed messages, on the one hand yes I agree if everything is going swimmingly i.e injury free and ranking still heading in the right direction I don't think there's any doubt that Bally will continue, but it also seems to hint that if Bally did start to feel her game was failing to progress anymore given the injuries she's had there would be a good chance that she would call it a day.
Bally has had a long hard road to get where she is now and comes across in interviews as so happy that she has finally got where she has been the last year or so, with the link up with Coach Nino, how she's been playing, her ranking etc
Unless her game goes into clear reverse in the next year or so, I would be very surprised if she would contemplate giving up. As long as she has good form and isn't really troubled by illness and or injury ( or likely to cause future problems ), I actually saw her as someone who would just want to play and play, into her thirties if all going reasonably well.
She spent a long time getting where she is and she'd be a long time retired.
