Week 34 - WTA ($618K) - New Haven, USA Hard

Actually I've just had a look at Cetkovska's activity and no way would one say based on her results in the last 3 or 4 months that she is overranked.  Maybe just wasn't at her best at Nottingham when Phil saw her.

From outside the top 100, she has shot up the rankings in a period where she has had a  7 - 2  ( now 8 - 2 ) record against top 50 players, which included beating Agnieszka Radwanska and Ivanovic at Wimbledon before taking Lisicki to a tiebreak in the first set of their last 16 match.  And now after a pretty umimpressive first few months of the season she is WR 40 ( went up again last week when she got to the last 32 in Cincinnato before losing in 3 sets to Kuznetsova  ) and ranked 38 in the race.

I would have been much more worried for Heather if I'd actually looked at that before.

At 26 Cetkovska is having a career year, including some eye catching wins, but she was beaten in the final at Nottingham by Bally and I still standby the fact that she hasn't been a top 50 player for any part of her career until now and for me won't stay there for any length of time.

Clearly though she is playing exceptionally well at the moment so the scoreline against Hev doesn't look half as bad now.

Cetkovska drops a few more games in her R2, but still has again beaten Agnieszka Radwanska WR 13  6 - 4  5 - 7  6 - 3  to reach the QFs.

Actually the full up to date story of Petra Cetkovska is :

L16 :  beat  (5) Agnieszka Radwanska WR 13   6 - 4  5 - 7  6 - 3

QF :   beat  (4) Marion Bartoli WR 9   7 - 5  7 - 5

SF :   beat  (2) Li Na WR 7   6 - 2   5 - 7  7 - 6 (9)

F   :   plays  (1) Caroline Wozniacki WR 1

Wasn't quite anticipating the let's follow Cetkovska story going so far !

Oh, by the way just in case anyone thought Cetkovska was never going to lose again, Caro beat her  6 - 4  6 - 1  in the final.

So a full week's tennis and another title leading into a slam for Caro

I wonder if playing the week before a slam contributes to the fact that she hasn't been able to win one?
