Big hold from Naomi to get to 5-4*. Think it might be a 5-7 set though.
I was thinking just the same - often the way it happens when a player is low on confidence and grand slam experience and finds a lead evaporating. Pleased to be wrong.
QR1: Naomi Broady WR 230 beat (wc) Robin Anderson (USA) WR 736 (CH 735 last week) by 7-6(2) 7-5 QR1: Laura Robson WR 173 beat Heidi el Tabakh (CAN) WR 200 (CH 149 in 2010) by 1 & 3
QR2: Naomi Broady WR 230 v (q22) Chang Kai-Chen (TPE) WR 139 (CH 82 in 2010) or Laura Thorpe (FRA) WR 229 (CH 161 in June)- currently 5-3* 1st set QR2: Laura Robson WR 173 v (wc) Taylor Townsend (USA) WR 598
Townsend is only 15 but she upset (11) Parra Santonja in straight sets today.

Laura will play Taylor Townsend in the second round (I have no idea who that it). That match will be 5th on court 4 on Thursday.
Naomi will play the winner of Kai-Chen Chang, the 22th seed and Laura Thorpe (Chang is 5-3 up first set). That match will take place 5th on Court 7, again on Thursday.
Taylor Townsend is coached by Donald Young snr according to ITF juniors website. Did well in a 50k recently, qualifying then reaching semis though her opponents were ranked outside top 400.
First serve percentages lower than I would have hoped for. Naomi really needs to serve brilliantly if she's to give herself a chance of qualifying.

Yes. Thing is from what I have detected over time, ir seems Naomi's serve can be a bit inconsistent from day to day, but when it is on song it can be really on song and becomes a major weapon. So here's hoping...
If it's not on song, I'd agree she's pretty unlikely to win her Q2. But if it is really on song it does give her a chance against a higher ranked opponent.

Great stuff from both girls, especially Naomi as I thought she was just the underdog, whilst Laura hung tough in the second when Tabakh upped her level. If I'm not mistaken Laura is scheduled for court 4 tomorrow which is where she fell at the last hurdle the last two years, however this is QR2. Simple if Laura plays well she wins and Naomi has got a decent draw and this win today will give her great confidence to go on and get the upset tomorrow.
