Another good result for Hev. Delighted to see that result this am. Resisted the temptation to follow it during the night. Likewise, tonight's match which I would so dearly love to follow. Lack of sleep just cripples me !!!
Bookies make this one more or less 50/50, and if Hev can get the win I think it will prove that she is ready to make the step up to a permanent top 100 player.

Will be very good to see Heatherr have a really good week here to follow up her performance against Sharapova and be winning some welcome points. Athough one game in a WTA tour 2nd round does not prove anything,. it will be a further reassuring indicator of her abilties if we see a strong performance, with a winning one almost certainly giving her a place back in the top 100.

I agree if Hev beats Arvidsson tonight and then gets beaten say 2 and 2 in the quarters yes it probably wouldn't mean anything, but I feel the Swede is the sort of player that she has been losing to this year, so a victory here to me anyway would be validation that she has taken a step forward.
No, sorry, I played a potential victory in a pretty positive light, but it wouldn't be proof or validation of anything, even allowing for the fact that you can't control how Arvidsson plays in the match, from a strinker to astonishingly well for her and all points in between.
I can go to Ratty outrage if you want

I didn't see the Sharapova match, but from all accounts I have read it appears that the Sharapova match was a step forward on anything that had been seen from Heather before.
It is difficult to be generally prescriptive over such a thing, it could be performances over time, which over the last year I think we'd agree have shown Heather moving forward, and further better performances over time would show she had stepped forward again. Or an impressive tournament could be a real step or indeed a performance such as against Sharapova. This tournament may largely validate that step forward that appeared to be taken against Sharapova, indeed a superb performance against Ardvidsson might to some extent. But, for instance, a scrappy win would not.
All I was saying to your posts, is that I think a win against Arvidsson in itself would not be proof that she is ready to make the step up be a permanent top 100 player nor would it validate that she had taken a step forward.
But as I said her "performance" there as opposed just to "winning" the match could well be much more of a validation that we apparently had a new improved Heather.
As to the top 100, her progess over the last year, punctuated by that performance against Sharapova already makes me very confident that Heather will become a top 100 before very long.
Sorry if I seem picky over a couple of words, but I just didn't agree. And again, sorry this post is so long, but it is just to make as clear as possible my thoughts and to try and clarify where I was coming from.
Anyway, I do hope Heather does go out and beats Arvidsson and with such a performance that proves / validates positive things in people's minds.
Just please don't ask me to specify how big a win or whatever would be any particular proof / validation for me

When talking about a step forward I am using the Sharapova match as a starting point as I felt before that Hev's progress had plateaued somewhat. I think the change in her coaching setup may have been a catalyst for the improved level of form shown against Sharapova and for what I am hoping she shows tonight.
