Very good again from Laura, she has certainly stepped up to a higher general level in the 2nd half of this year.
Just as long as folk have a little patience still that not every match is likely at the moment to go as she and we would like. I suspect she will still have bad parts of matches, bad full matches indeed. Consistency especially with a game like hers and her pretty interrupted first half of year and less match play will take time, but its steadily coming.
Czink, yes, likely to be a tough opponent, though since coming back ( after being out the 2nd half of 2010 ) at the end of February she has had a pretty full season ( more tournaments than Laura ) and the win she had against Stosur at Wimbledon appears to have been her only win against a top 100 player before she beat Falconi here. Had quite a few relatively bad looking defeats spread over the year and "just" ranked 130 in the race ( Laura is 145 ), so still generally well off being back to top 40 level. And this is not the time to find that level again, Melinda

Wonder why they have 4 bye's seemingly randomly positioned in the main draw (unlike tournaments where the top 8 seeds get a R1 BYE). It's not as if they have a shortage of players.
Sorry guys new to this posting malarky didn't know how to include comment i was responding too but this was supposed to go with RBBOT comment:
They are not as random as they first look.
Due to the scheduling of the China Open being stretched over more than a week the Tokyo semi finalists are given the luxury of a first round bye.
