Anne loses 4-6 2-6. It's a shame that the LL aren't drawn randomly to avoid matches like this where the result only really matters to one player.
I totally agree with the main point about random draws but quibble about the reference to Anne. If Anne beats Makarova (she certainly has a chance - the Russian hasn't won many matches recently, though most of her losses have been against strong players) she now gets 30 points rather than 46 as a qualifier, and that could make the difference between Australian Open direct acceptance or not, if she doesn't do well in her remaining tornaments this year.
Bally and Anne are the first matches on court (10am BST). Eurosport coverage starts tomorrow afternoon, so it's possible that Bally's match may be streamed
Would Anne not get 40pts in that scenario. 30pts R1 win added to 10pts for winning first two rounds of qualifying????
I take you main point though, she needs the points!

No - to get bonus points you have to qualify. If she loses she will get the 10 points for her efforts in the qualifying tournament, but no bonus if she wins

Do you mean that a LL will get their qualifying points if they lose their first round match in the main draw, but not if they win it?

If Anne loses in R1 of the main draw she gets 10 points. She would have got 16 points if she had won her FQR.
If she wins her R1 match in the main draw she will get 30 points only, i.e. not plus 10. Whereas if she had won her FQR she would get 46 points ( 30 + 16 )
And similarly if she wins any subsequent round she will just get the normal award for reaching that round with no addition. Whereas if she had won her FQR she would have added 16 points.
So not winning her FQR costs her 6 points if she goes out in R1, but 16 points if she wins any main draw matches.
Seems fair enough, i.e. be thankful for getting the points for winning a main draw round or rounds when you didn't really qualify, without getting bonus points on top.

I understand now and it seems to make sense. However you could argue that the 10pts were already won regardless, and not right to take them away. I don't take that view myself but, from the tournaments point of view, they do actually NEED a LL (or something similar) as it would be unfair to receive a bye (and prize money and points) because an opponent puuled out.
Bally off to a storming start, breaking Cibulkova to love and leading 3-0*.
After a slow start in which she was broken in the first game, Anne has broken back (to love) to level the game at 2-2.
Anne must have had a poor first two games considering Makarova has first serve percentage of 22% at the moment! Looks like she is steadying the ship now.
Very similar scores (they were both *3-3 15-0 when I started watching!) but they're getting there in different ways. Elena missed a bp in the 8th game, Anne now has a set point on Makarova's serve ... also missed.
