Great win for Anne, indeed apparently a career high win in ranking terms
Doing a great job of defending last year's points. One more win and, with her qualifying points, she'll actually surpass last year's semi final points.
I read another site bemoaning how short the European indoor hardcourt season is now compared with the past, given particularly the Asian swing, and maybe Anne would agree.
As for Ana, I'd quote the end of that link about her back injury :
Getting strong and healthy will be the top priority for Ivanovic during the offseason, and one has to wonder if playing through this back injury - just one of a series of injuries she's suffered this year - is a wise move.
At 3-0 down in the first, her odds were even longer. However, when she broke back and I read that she had BPs in Ana's first 2 service games i thought I'd have a punt. So thanks for whoever posted that.
Well done Anne. Managed to get on at 7-1 so really happy with that result.
If I'd had time to look at the odds, I think I would have risked a few quid as well. I honestly thought Anne had a great chance today and I think the pre match odds were around the 5/1 mark, so the bookies made a complete rick of compiling those odds given Ana's injury problem.
Don't know if the bookies maybe didn't take enough account of Ana's injury issues. It would be very surprising if they weren't in some touch with the issue.
Her China form at the beginning of this month was good, beating Kuznetsova and Zvonoreva before retiring against Radwanska, and she'd started here beating Razzano in straight, if fairly tight, sets.
Even in a two horse race ( sorry, ladies ) 5 / 1 outsiders are allowed to win without it being a complete rick by the oddsmakers

Well done Anne - must be a great relief to defend the majority of her points here and secure her Australian Open place. I'm baffled at the bookies' odds - you always get more upsets at this time of year with players struggling at the end of a long season (look at how many seeds are left in this tournament). Congratulations to SMC and anyone else who took advantage of the generous odds on offer.
Great win Anne! Like other people I was concerned about her defending her points from last year but hopefully this should keep her in the big league for a bit, and maybe she can even move further up. Would be good to see her back in the top 50.
Seems I'm in the minority ( and obviously the result is against me ) , but I still don't see that to give Anne, with her general overall form ( if looking a bit better lately ), effectively a one in six chance of achieving what was a career high win, even if Ana had known injury issues ( her form wasn't bad and she clearly felt she could play through it ), was that ridiculous.
Congratulations though to those who judged otherwise and made money. Anyway, however much of a shock it was, the main thing is Anne won
