Great stuff Semi final again and outdoing her points from last year.
Looked a good consistent performance from what I saw in the second set. Now really needs to win her semi final so she actually really can be, what the tennis TV commentator kept calling her, the GB No 2.
Anyway, now can basically be assured of her Aussie Open main draw place and ending the season in the top 100.
As comfortable as you could hope for in a WTA quarter-final. Schoofs looked like an ITF player on a good run, but having overreached her level. The website commentator was irritating in his pronunciations and choices of phrase, with the Dutch player serving on more than one occasion 'to stay alive' etc.
Niculescu has been a major problem for Anne and other Brits, with her unconventional style (forehand slices etc.), but Anne won their last encounter in the Krakow final of 2008.
Exciting times for Anne who to me looks right back to her best. Niculescu likes to think of herself as the Santoro of ladies tennis, and will try and slice and dice her way to victory. Niculescu has to go in as favourite but Anne has every chance of making her 1st WTA final.
After watching Niculescu beat Hradecka, I'd say that Anne has a chance. The Romanian is tricky, but the win was almost more down to the Czech self-destructing than anything else - lots and lots al balls that could have been winner ending up going long. Where Hradecka played well was in attacking Niculescu's weak second serve.
Whatever the result, this week will surely have done Anne the world of good.
No Internet access all day, but this is great news to log on to. Who'd have thought when Anne lost the 1st set to Kutuzova in QR1 that she would end up more than defending last year's 130 points? I know she's had a bit of luck with the draw, Ana not being 100% yesterday, etc, a bit like she did here last year, but hese have all bee tough matches that she has, by all accounts, had to play very well to win.
In fact, with today's win, Anne has overtaken Hev in the 2011 'race', something I definitely wouldn't have expected a few weeks ago, and it now looks virtually certain that GB will have three women in the year-end WTA top 100 for the second time in 3 years, the first time that has happened (twice in 3 years I mean) since 1988 and 1990.

Anne now sure to make Aussie Open cut which frees her up to play both tour events the 2 weeks before. A valuable win in many ways for sure...........more to come???????????

Even better the great likelihood that GB will have three women in the year-end top 100 for the second time in 3 years
Sorry, I'm guessing that's what you meant Fits in with the 1988 and 1990 dates.
