Nicola 'Hitt' Morocco off the court 1 & 3 according to her tweet, in which she also says this is the only tournament she is playing for the rest of the year. I thought her playing here meant she had recoved from her injured knee, but maybe she ran out of money to fund tournaments in getting her knee sorted out. A real pity, given how well she was doing the last time she did get a chance to play a string of tournaments.

She also said in her tweet that in QR2, she will play someone who was at van der Meer with her - as far as I can tell, that means Paulina Bigos (POL) UNR - strangely, her surname is her country's national dish, a meat stew.

A very good win for Nik against a top 400 player - in her words:

"Are yall ready?.... I won! 6-3 (should have been 2) 5-7 (had match point at 5-4 and was 3-1 up) 7-5 (was serving 40-0 at 5-3) not bad for picking up a racket 2 weeks ago and considering other things going on :) ps she was a 6ft plus Chinese girl!"

Oh, draw master, give poor Nik a break.  It's tough enough her getting the funds together, not helped at all by injury problems recently, and she gets a really good qualifying win, and you give her that.  Boo  no
