Uberimpressive by Anne, the top half of the draw looking very strong with Anne, Barthel and Krajicek all appearing to be in top form, opportunities in the bottom half for one of the Brits to make the final.

Re the Laura vs Heather match, which I missed all of, thanks very much to all who gave uipdates.  I made myself read from the start without knowing the end and it was still quite exciting in severely condensed form over a few pages here.

I slightly surprised myself with going with the majority and predicting a Heather win, having been really impressed with Laura over the last few months ( and of course pretty impressed with Heather too ) but yes ultimately did wonder about the JoKo match and whether Laura was a bit rusty and not quite on her game.

Anyway, great that it was a pretty tight interesting match.  I am sure the loser would of got over a much more decisive loss, but probably was indeed best a match like that, especially with it turning and then back again.

Laura hasd bulit up a lot of points since Wimbledon, and I'd be very surprised if she didn't ease into the top 100 reasonably early in 2012.  It is in fact Heather that lags considerably behind the rest of the GB top 4 in points won from Wimbledon on, and would certainly have wekcomed some more points here, with points still to come off this year and a lot of points quite early in 2012.

The fact that Laura got injured at Wimbledon might have something to do with that.

Great scoreline for Anne.

Shame Naomi lost but at least she made Bychkova work hard for her win, which is good news for Laura after this morning's efforts.

Ah, pity about Tara and Naomi, they both seem in form and did really well to reach R2. Then, their R2 matches on the face of it did seem to give them not unreasonable chances of even further adavancement.

Or even Heather  smile   Yes, 100 points which she seemed on course for then before her elbow injury, and maybe even more to follow would have certainly closed the points gap.  As it is her current counting ranking points are heavily weighted pre Wimbledon.  It is Laura who is in fact top Brit from Wimbeldon on, which just emphasises what a good position she is in for moving quite quickly up the rankings in the first half of next year.

Currently, overall ranking point totals including so far this week :

Elena :   Total  1040  ( split pre Wimby  680, Wimby on  360 )

Heather :  Total  765   ( split pre Wimby   557,  Wimby on  208 )

Anne  :  Total   742   ( split pre Wimby  363,  Wimby on  379 )

Laura  :  Total  501  ( split  pre  Wimby  74,  Wimby on  427 )
