Hard to say, Phil. There's two-page spread on tennis today. The article from which I quoted above takes up all of the first page (that said, the bottom third of each page is taken up by advertising!), with a colour photo of Hev (with a rather despairing look on her face!), some comment on the match itself, an aside about JoKo ("an Australian-born player with pretentions [sic] to play for Britain some day"), a few words about Naomi B & a few more about AK's 2012 prospects. The second page is taken up by a larger, not very flattering (she's grimacing as she reaches for a backhand!), photo of Laura & the follow-up to yesterday's report on Caroline Wozniacki's call for the powers that be to do something about the noise levels in women's tennis (as if they have the guts to do that!) under the heading "Azarenka delivers derisory snort to prospect of being told: 'Stop grunting'" (that inevitably mentioned Shriekapova, Shriekarenka & MLdB ).
I rather wish OEM had checked his facts a bit better: apart from the fact that he can't spell "pretensions", I think his use of the word was unintentionally (I think he actually meant "aspirations" - he's often guilty of malapropisms, I find) disparaging & potentially inaccurate (I thought I saw a post on here earlier this week to the effect that Jo was now officially a Brit). The other obvious example is the spelling of Kotze (I copied "Coetze" letter for letter from the paper), about which, having checked, I think you're correct!
I was shocked by "pretentions" this morning too - you don't expect to see spelling errors as bad as that in the Times - carry on like that and we'll hav to start calling it the Thnureder.
I imagine that was the word OEM used, and I agree that 'aspirations' would have been better, but with the spellings, you never know whether it's the journo or an over-zealous/over-tired editor who has made the mistake. My guess would be that someone assumed Kotze was similar to (Amanda) Coetzer!
Sadly, I'm so accustomed to that kind of typo now that I'm long past the "shocked" stage, although that doesn't stop me feeling like firing off an "Incandescent from North Finchley" e-mail to the editor when I spot a particularly egregious example (or some ugly Yank barbarism like "get sick", which has stuck in my mind since I read an article on an effective vaccine being developed against malaria, or a glaring grammatical error). I never do because I'm sure all I'd get in reply, assuming I received a reply, that is, is a mealy-mouthed excuse to try & justify it!
After an average first 9 months of the season Anne is really coming into form now. I bet she is cursing the fact the season is almost over.
3 set losses just a distant memory now...
What do people think are her chances of cracking the top 50 again?
I really thought a few months ago Anne was on brink of retiring. She was in or around top 100 not getting the results she wanted and saying things like "its only a game" and not sounding very positive at all.
Domachowska beats Bychkov 76(3) 26 63 and will play Brit Anne Keothavong in Saturday's final.
For the record, Domachowska's been taken to three sets in every round but the first, so Anne'll probably have a bit of a battle on her hands tomorrow...
The final could be over very quickly, or an epic struggle if the Polish girl has anything left in the tank. She had more medical treatment on court today and has now played 7 matches this week having come through qualifying.
Decent support for Anne today and she really served well today in the second set, Barthel offering her nothing on her serve, nice to see Sky sticking around until the end of the tournament to follow Anne. Batesy was interviewed prematch and Anne after the match.
Brilliant win, it's not easy to beat Mona Barthel once, let alone twice in less than a month
Whoever would have thought a few weeks/months ago that Anne had a hope of finishing the year ahead of Heather, especially with Heather still at a career high!

Yep well done Anne.
Loks like the British competition is doing them all good.
