TA also tweeted it but after last week's disappointment I was waiting for the draw sheet to confirm it.
Yes, I wasn't sure whether to believe it until I saw it confirmed on the draw sheet either! 5th time lucky then - no surprise that it was a tight 3-setter!

I think this is the first time I can say this during this tour Down Under. Two very pleasing wins for our girls, both looked to have stepped it up this week. Mel favourite but probably just about a guaranteed 3 setter.
L32: Lisa Whybourn WR 418 lost to Tammi Patterson (AUS) WR 426 by 1 & 4 L32: (5) Emily Webley-Smith WR 250 lost to (Q) Emelyn Starr WR 804 (CH 370 in 2009) by 6-3 2-2 ret.
Emily: "Ibuprofen box no.7 of the trip complete.but the little white sweeties aren't working anymore.please can I just be healthy." She gets no luck, does she?
L16: (7) Melanie South WR 300 beat Samantha Murray WR 471 by 0 & 4
Mel: "tennis is so much more fun when you are actually winning matches, allez"
QF: (7) Melanie South WR 300 v (2) Isabella Holland (AUS) WR 193 or (WC) Daniela Scivetti (AUS) WR 974 (CH 465 in 2010)

Pity for Emily that after her really strong first half of the year, the second half hasn't really gone to plan with her appendectomy and not really being healthy in Australia.
As it is, with a number of Australian first round wins and her R2 win last week she will be close to her CH of WR 241 in Monday's rankings. Just feel that maybe with better luck she could be up much nearer Naomi Broady and looking towards the top 200.
Another good looking victory for Mel. Hopefully this will give her more confidence going into her meeting with Holland.
