Oh dear, I must have subconsciously remembered I'd got it wrong before and assumed it must be spelt the opposite way to how you'd naturally expect it to be spelt. If I remember right, the original mistake came from believing the spelling on the BBC results page one day - and you can't get much more stupid than trusting the BBC to be accurate

Since SMC's already posted an explanation of the actual meaning of the phrase, I'll confine myself to admitting that I use it with a liberal dose of "poetic" licence & pointing out that it's very much a reflection of my cynical view of the lottery that is the match tie-break.
