GSM! Well done Naomi, thanks for the updates Julia.
Edit - surely this will put her firmly in the the top 200 and keep her there for a while.
Actually it won't make any difference to her points total - Naomi has won so many R1 matches in 25Ks and above this year that once the Opole points get added next Monday, she will already have 15 scores from 2011 of 8 or more (plus the 5 she is forced to count from Wimbledon as her 16th), but it does move the effective date when she next has points to defend from 30 Jan to 6 Feb.

Well done to Naomi The no 3 seed, Timea Babos ( who seems to have been in good recent form ) or a qualifier awaits in R2 for a chance for Naomi to start adding counting points this week.
Talking about counting points and how consistent Naomi has been in moving up her last counter, I was just thinking how much better one could maybe say Laura has performed than her ranking.
She is WR 131 with 501 points from precisely 16 tournaments with no drops, and she is actually carrying 5 single pointers. If you say compared points per tournament played with Anne and Heather ( who have been able to play much more and drop all their very low and even quite low scores, with ignoring compulsories them carrying nothing lower than 18 points ) she'd be right up around their mark.

Babos has just thrashed Vaideanu. Naomi and Timea have only met once (at senior level anyway), Babos winning 10-8 in a 3rd set tiebreak in the Edinburgh 10K Final back in 2009, though that was on clay (or the closest GB gets to clay!) - both have moved on a long way since then.

Should be a titanic battle between two big hitters, expect plenty of aces, and although Naomi will be the slight underdog every chance of getting another win.
Despite sending down 5 aces so far in her 4 service games, Naomi has been broken twice. Fortunately, she has broken back twice too, so it stands at *4-4.
