if Peer plays the way she did against Brito then I am confident we can win, she was awful, all Brito did was get the ball in court and Peer either hit into the net or miles out haha.
Tweets from Miss Krajicek, may also explain why Peer was so poor also:
Good effort today from @Bube88! Unfortunately my body didn't recover from last night so I lost 3-6,3-6 to E.Baltacha and didn't play the deciding doubles. Looking forward to resting well tonight and to have a good day tomorrow vs. Portugal #nedfcteam
It's a big plus in Fed Cup zonal groups to be able to share the load round 3 or 4 players. Teams reliant on 2 players often find that there's a day when one of them is fatigued or can't play. What's unclear is whether Peer's struggle today and quick defeat will give her the chance to recover more for tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if Heather is offered the second singles slot instead of Anne tomorrow, which both should be capable of winning, partly with a view to the long-term and partly so Judy can gauge better who to throw in to Saturday's decider if we make it.
Her best wins I found in quick slim of her record for the last 2 years (and probably overall, given her age) were against Jarmila Groth (WR ~40) 18 months ago by retirement, and Silvia Solder Espinosa (WR ~80) in the 2011 Australian Open QR1. If she were to beat Laura it would be her biggest win in terms of ranking since then.
The biggest concern is the effect of the Israeli crowd.
Peer's only British opposition in that time period was Borwell/South, winning in Wimbledon doubles, and beating Rae/Flemming in the mixed.
Can't get my head round it. So yes GB just win for the sake of my poor brain.
They haven't got it wrong in that article, they have just missed out quite a few possibilities. The correct possiblities have already been mentioned above, but it might help to set them out one by one, so here goes ...
GBR win -> GBR the only team with 3 tie wins -> GBR go through whatever happens in NED v POR
ISR win & NED win -> GBR & ISR both with 2 tie wins, NED & POR 1 -> 2-way tie -> ISR go through on H2H v GBR
ISR win & POR win -> GBR, ISR & POR all with 2 tie wins, NED 0 -> 3-way tie -> decided on matches won as follows:
ISR 3-0 & POR 3-0 -> GBR 5, ISR 6, POR 5 -> ISR go through ISR 3-0 & POR 2-1 -> GBR 5, ISR 6, POR 4 -> ISR go through
ISR 2-1 & POR 3-0 -> GBR 6, ISR 5, POR 5 -> GBR go through ISR 2-1 & POR 2-1 -> GBR 6, ISR 5, POR 4 -> GBR go through
So, as people have mentioned above, this reduces to GB needing to beat ISR, but a 1-2 loss to Israel would be enough if POR to beat NED as well.
