Was really pleased to discover Laura was playing today and it ended up a great effort by her.
As I said yesterday this was the way to go. It could have come off badly but she rose to the occasion and so much of the match was on her racket as to how her winners measured against errors. That lost close season is a pity re working on her consistency.
But she had a very good player in Arvidsson scampering all over the place and scampering well. One thing we noted too though was Laura's own scampering abilties, which we thought was as good as we've seen. I see it was commented on here earlier. Her movement will never be the best but I was impressed with how many balls that she was getting to that a Laura of not too long ago would not have got to.
Re earlier comments, Laura was NOT the better player on the day. Overall Arvidsson won, because putting everything together she was the better. Laura has much potential to be a much better player than Arvidsson and can do things now that Ardvidsson can't but Sofia deserved to win on the day.
Great fight by Laura too in saving all these match pöints and she truly saved them by her good play and wasn't given them. Maybe there is a mental point here to concentrate on every point as she did on these. I also noted how she focussed after a seemingly bad call and also after two bad volley errors in one game.
Great fight by her and so in the match with fist pumps that were natural and meant. No Tiger Tim pumps these
Was so sorry for her at the end of her match and she was such a sad looking soul as she walked around in the couple of hours afterwards.
Overall Anne played reasonably well yesterday and I certainly agreed playing her today. A dead rubber is probably a bit difficult motivationally. Pity she couldn't get the win.
Larsson was certainly beatable by any of the Brits on their day.and Laura showed what could be done against Arvidsson.
The real Bally wasn't here and who knows how much she was injury hampered. Presumably not really that much given she played the doubles.
But as Steven says Bally did so much in Isreal to get GB here and noone doubts her spirit. Just unfortunately didn't happen for her here.
We were a bit perplexed about the doubles with Bally seen by Phil apparently rushing back to her hotel for rackets. Clearly Laura was very down with her singles, but I was surprised she didn't play the doubles. We didn't realise there was an injury issue. Hope it will not prove too serious. Because she could do with a good injury free period.
As well as hoping no major injury issue with Laura I hope some really good coach gets hold of her. That girl has talent in bucketloads and should overall be ahead of where she is now. I feel, some significant time has been wasted in her development. Work, work on more consistency and general match play ( i.e. play all points as important points ) and have a good consistent attitude and don't get down on herself ( it was good today )
Anyway, pity Bally and Anne couldn't have had the achievement of reaching the World Group and leave that legacy for Laura and Heather to pick up on ( not that I'äm binning Bally and Anne yet ! ) But back to the regional group next year

Gutsy tennis from Laura Robson to save so many tie points; much for her to be proud of and she must have learned so much from this first appearance in Fed Cup. I hope once she's over the disappointment she'll see the positives.
Just a shame that neither Anne nor Bally could have posted a win yesteday but it's not to be and we'll stay where we are for now.
Eurosport has turned off coverage of the 'dead' rubbers but wonder if we can win one? Larsson v Keothavong now up on livescore board.
In the dead fourth rubber Anne broke at 5-5, but Larsson broke back. Anne led in the tiebreak but lost it 8-6. After 4 breaks in the second set they are now at 3-3
Shame, but Bally was the one who let the team down unfortunately and Im sure she is gutted more than anyone.
Better luck next year ladies, but plenty to focus on this year so chins up all round I hope
Not a great day for Bally yesterday, for sure, but of course, they wouldn't even have been there without her heroics in Eilat - and that's the point of having a team with a bit of depth, when one has a bad day, somebody else steps up - Laura did admirably, just a pity Arvidsson stayed strong enough to hold her off, but Sofia has played more than 50 singles rubbers in Fed Cup, so I imagine she's used to coming through in that kind of situation!
