Sorry for all of you folks that followed the match right through, seems to have been quite a roller coaster. But I'm more particularly sorry for Heather.
Still looks to have been a fighting display, and actually ( standing up for the gals ! ) in the last few months of last season I saw the top British women win a good lot of close matches, maybe even more than their fair share.
So, let's not even start with there being any particular British issue, and particularly not Heather, though she'll obviously regret the set and match points that got away. It can happen though. Anyone see what these points were like ?
Anyway, she's clearly at a decent level, although I have read some doubts about some of her play, particularly serve, though some said very wind effected the other day.
Anyway, chin up girl, on to the Aussie Open.

It must have been very frustrating for her, especially given that she won more games and more points over the match as a whole, but Pironkova looked a lot more powerful throughout and the fact that Heather managed to match her so closely was down to her incredible fitness and tenacity. Pironkova's serve got a lot more reliable late in the second half of the final set (she was holding much more easily than Hev before the tiebreak started) and that's what saw her through.

Tough for Hev, Pironkova hadn't been in great form, so disappointing for a number of reasons. Still Hev not playing badly just a little frustrating she can't see out this type of match.
Given Heather's recent injury, a couple of 3 setters will have done her fitness the world of good and on reflection, her confidence too.
Let's hope for a kind draw next week. The exciting thing about Heather and Laura is that whoever they get, you know it'll be a good fight/close run thing.
