Oh joy, I'm first in with the meaningless cliches:
IT WILL BE INVALUABLE BIG OCCASION EXPERIENCE FOR LAURA. SHE'S GOT NOTHING TO LOSE, SO LET'S HOPE SHE CAN MIX IT WITH THE BIG GUNS AND USE THIS EXPERIENCE TO KICK ON TO THE TOP 100.
Or something like that.
... or better still, beat the rather annoying former world no. 1, in which case she would match the points Venus Williams (currently WR 100) has at the moment, and the wait might be over very quickly!

We had 4 girls in the US Open (identical quartet - with Laura qualifying)
Last time we had 4 in the Australian Open was 2009 (Baltacha, Keothavong, O'Brien, South)
Yes, Laura played Jankovic at Wimbledon (not her first time - that was Hantuchova). I think you are recalling a different match - Laura lost in straight sets, the second being closely contested, and going to a tiebreak

Ah yes, I was getting mixed up, so Jankovic was her second, and she was up to the task tehn, so hopefully even more so this time as she's earned her right to be here as it were.
So she should get to around 118 in the rankings the after the Ausiie at least. Does she get 60 or 65 once she's played the first round?

The women don't get R1 points in addition to qualifying points if they lose in R1. The men do, but in their case both figures are significantly lower than the corresponding WTA points.
