I got the impression that Laura was trying too hard. She had the shots to trouble Jelena but not enough of them went in. Laura 3 aces and 7DFs Laura 10 winners and 31 Unforced errors. Laura 42 points, Jelena 64 points.
That's 0-15 (for Brits in games since Laura last won one)
Listening to 5live, it sounds like Elena was having one of those (previously quite frequent but recently very rare) days when she has trouble finding the lines.

Disappointing that Laura fell away so badly after playing OK for the first half an hour, whilst never at her best. Previously when playing the top players she has managed to maintain her focus throughout the matches.
Overall still a good tournament for Laura as she did play well to qualify, but I would have hoped she would have been at least more competitive today. Whereas Azarenka played so well against Heather as to not give her a chance, Laura playing well would have been very competitive with Jankovic today.

I thought Hev played OK just Azarenka is unstoppable at the moment. Laura was just a notch below her best and couldn't convert game points, especially the game at 2-3* which was crucial, appeared a little nervous to me. Bally struggling as well somewhat and apparently Annie K has food poisoning.
Fed Cup hopes not looking great you'd have to say, but sport does change very quickly, so keep the faith.
I had a bad feeling about today given that all our other 5 players were all playing on the same day before Muzzah tomorrow. Hopefully the press won't be too harsh when they report tomorrow.
