Well done to Lisa  smile

Pity about Tara.  Apart from the first set bagel yesterday her scores hadn't looked that great this week so maybe not a huge shock to lose to the Brit Basher.

Tara was saying in the video link of earlier that she'd had quite a few niggles in the off season, so hope she is at least injury free as soon as possible.

Just would love her to put together a good first half of the season to go with her good second half from last year and build up confidence with a significant rankings rise.  I somehow sense she is a bit of a confidence player.

Still very early days in the new season and maybe just shaking off a bit of rust.

[Bowtell]'s the OWI-BBM (one woman Irish Brit-bashing machine) - 13-1 now against Brits since the start of July 2011 and Tara had been the one spoiling that record.

(though only at the description!)  I think your hyphen's in the wrong place, Steven, & that there should in fact be two, viz. one-woman Irish Brit-bashing machine, so O-OIB-BM. wink  Seriously, shame about Tara. cry

Has Amy run out of Irish opponents to beat up?

What I can't understand is why Bowtell still hasn't cracked the top 500 - does she only beat Brits and lose to everyone else?!

I'm guessing that she must play a lot of her events in the UK (because it's close) and that being the case, she'll probably end up playing a lot of low-ranked and unranked British players. She would have an amazing record against Turkish or Swedish players if she played the majority of her events there too.

I know what you mean (though interesting spelling of woman starting 'o' wink) but it was deliberate - the thinking was that "OWI" probably sounds a bit like what a Brit would say when they found out they were due to play her!

It goes without saying that the 13-1 includes wins against low/unranked Brits, but it also includes Lucy Brown (twice), Alex Walker, Anna Fitzpatrick and now Tara, who were all ranked similarly to her or well above her when she played them.

Yes, must admit I'd been thinking the same about the OWIBBM  ( best with no hyphens, folk  smile ),  i.e.  how the hell is she still ranked outside the top 550 ?

And while there is truth about playing plenty lower ranked Brits, I think she has generally thumped them and as Steven says has good results against higher ranked ones too.  Maybe, just not a good traveller, further than the UK ?

I'm expecting a bit of banter tomorrow afternoon on twitter after my tweet about Amy's Brit-bashing record was picked up by Tennis Ireland (oops!) and retweeted by at least half a dozen enthusiastic Irish fans ... (what they lack in numbers, they make up for in enthusiasm, that's for sure ... hence I rather like them, while still hoping Lisa gives their best female hope a good thrashing LOL)

While you can't work out total points from the winning game score bets without knowing how many deuces there were in deuce games, you can work out the margin - Lisa won one point more than Amy over the course of the match.
