Also Lisa 'no E' Whybourn's win broke a 5-match losing streak in singles stretching from that stunning turnaround Amy Bowtell pulled off against her in Sutton back in January.

QF: WHYBOURN, Lisa (GBR) 7 602 v BUCHINA, Yana (UKR) 3 373 (CH 337 last Oct)
Buchina won a 10K in Antalya just under a year ago but her ranking slipped after she went on a 7-match losing streak in the summer/autumn. She has beaten Indy de Vroome in R2 the last 2 weeks, going out in the QFs last week.

R2: WHYBOURN, Lisa (GBR) 7 602 beat ESEN, Hulya (TUR) 552 by 1 & 4
I thought the second Esen sister might be a tough one to get past given that she beat the player who knocked out Lisa last week and went on to reach the Final, so this is a good win. Perhaps I ought to annoy her (albeit inadvertently) more often!

Looking on the bright side, Lisa's drop to WR 602 this week should be a low point - with her 4 points this week, she has more than covered all the points she has coming off between now and mid-September.
