Laura continues to show she can play a bit on red clay.
Until that crucial last game there had been 11 consecutive holds of serve in that set, which doesn't happen too often in womens matches on clay. The fact that Laura was only broken once in the match hopefully means her serve is working well.
The Livescore website for this tournament also has downloadable scorecard pdfs with point by point scoring and stats. From looking at the scorecards of Laura's matches:
V Bergot was as one-sided as the score suggested with only one game in the whole match going to deuce. Laura also won 66% of the toal points. Laura won the toss and chose to receive - interesting because she has always elected to serve in the past as far as I can remember. Maybe it was a choice based on playing on clay (she also chose to receive again v Coin). First serve percentage still not brilliant at 46% but only 2 double faults.
v Coin Better serving from Laura, 59% first serves, 6 aces (all in the second set) and only 3 doubles. Coin's serve stats were also good, which helps explain the lack of breaks in the second set. Laura won 55% of total points, and looking at the point by point scores, Coin had a slight edge in the second set before Laura won the crucial 12th game.
And for Naomi:
v Temin Always likely to be a comfortable win and it was once she got through the first few games, but it looks like the first set was quite scrappy and she needed some help from her opponent who double faulted three times in her first two service games. No aces for Naomi (in stark contast to today's match).
v Pliskova The match was as even as the scoreline suggested, with both players winning 107 points. Both players also had 4 breaks from 6 opportunities, so it was a very tough loss for Naomi but looks like she played well. Naomi's serve was certainly working as she hit 19 aces and kept her first serve % above 60% in every set. 4 double faults is not too bad for such a long match, although Pliskova avoided double faulting at all.
Judging by the aces hit and serving stats today and yesterday the courts are playing faster today (or it could just be less windy), which is good news for Laura if that remains the case tomorrow.

I saw them earlier, yes Laura electing to recieve is a first, be interesting whether she continues with that once the grass starts. The main thing I noticed was the 2nd serve stats for Coin in the second set compared with the first, basically a complete reversal. Not sure what the explanation could have been for that.
Agree Naomi was the better player for the first 2 sets based upon points won, set 3 probably a fair result.
