Well I got that prediction completely wrong ! I thought Catalina was in unstoppable form , so alot of credit has to go to Laura for getting through that match, not many ranking points gained, but hopefully lots of confidence gained and proof that she is moving in the right direction after a tough start to the season. She now has as many wins on 'red' clay this season as she has from all the other tournaments played on different surfaces.
Rybarikova is a class act on her day, but thankfully is out of form, so an opportunity for Laura to get a top 100 scalp on clay. Hopefully she still has enough petrol in the tank to do herself justice tomorrow.
It looks as if Hev was probably just a little bit slow out of the blocks, but having finished her match so well it looks promising for the rest of the tournament. I agree though that Cadantu is going to very tough. Again she 's not in top form but she had a very solid win in the first round.
Don't know if this has been mentioned but Hev and Laura are in the same quarter, but you'd have to be a major optimist to believe that there's a chance they might meet in the quarters.
It will be Laura's 7th game in 7 days tomorrow, but 5 of the previous 6 have been only 2 sets so I think the benefit from the match practice on clay far outweight any potential tiredness issues. Rybarikova is a good player so a win tomorrow would be an upset, but Laura's performances over the last weeks suggest it is quite possible that she can get the win.
