True. But at the age of 26 he really can't be hanging around Futures for too long if he still has aspirations of going much higher.

Disappointed to see Goodall playing in Ireland. Really feel that he needs to be playing challengers as much as possible now. A whole summer of playing Futures is not the right preparation for US Open qualifying.

Maybe you could pay his mortgage for a few months?

Surely the wild cards from Wimbledon will help do that?

I fully understand that financial situations limit what players can do but at 26 Josh doesn't have that much time left if he is to make a half decent singles career for himself. He has worked very hard over the last 18 months or so and is in far better shape than he has ever been. I don't think he put that work in just so he can win a shed load of futures tournaments. If he wants to go further he his going to have to take a future chances.

Oh and for the avoidnace of all doubt. I completely respect that the choice is entirely his. It's just that since I think he can compete well at challenger level (at least on the right surfaces) I will be disappointed if I don't see him playing on a rgular basis.

Oh yes. Lets not forget that he just "won" over 17K in prize money through wild cards into Wimbledon.

Its an interesting one with Goodall, he seemed to be quite a solid challenger level player a few years back now. The past couple of years, especially this year, his challenger record has been dire, his only win coming against a fellow junior at Nottingham i think. Maybe courts have slowed down considerably in the past 5 years? Or he's just struggling to win matches against the 'better' players now?

I guess after Wimbledon he has had the two routes before the US open, playing the home futures, which is the one he seems to be taking or playing most American hardcourt challengers

Im actually happy that he is playing the british futures at the moment, especially a string of grass court ones where he can bag a lot of wins because of his pedigree on the surface and wins will keep his confidence ticking over. Ireland looks like a good idea presuming that the carpet there is relatively quick because there is a potential 27 points for him there if he is to play well. If he were to have made the trip to the US and play these challengers, we could have been looking at 4/5 1st round losses to players that are just a bit better than him at the moment which really wouldnt have done him the world of good moving onto qualies

After Ireland i would like to see him move over to the challengers rather than back to the GB futures (12 and 13) again, looking at the calendar, it would be like Vancouver and then Aptos?

i think one of the potential issues with playing too many futures is getting stuck at a level, it's often been aid that players get stuck in certain zones, even when they can often show they can compete higher, but then it becomes harder and harder to raise your game and step it up.

I do agree that with a sub 250 ranking you really should be looking to play more challengers, but perhaps Josh wants to get the matches in and get some wins before playing more challengers in the 2nd half of the year?

Obviously we don't know his situation and why he makes his choices, but what i am pretty sure is he will be doing what he believes is right for his career.

Would be nice is boggo can scrape in, although might be a good chance that SE spots could be needed from Binghamton.
